After entering test mode I only have channels 39-42. None give the Option to change mode as was available with Channel 43 either. Any info on this?

That sounds correct. Only channel 43 allows you to change modes. Channels 39-42 each display something else. Here’s what I found:

“Test mode enabled by pwr down, hold func+F4 and power up/Enables CH39 to 43 to be selected. ON 43 hold ptt in and can then rotate selection knob to change the mode ie broadband TX all vhf and uhf frequencies. Release ptt to save. Power down and back on, radio comes on in new mode.
also CH-39-42 is selectable shows 39= RF FW version 1.10, 40 = CPU V1.11, 41 lcd V1.10, 42 = mode:02 amateur, 01 fixed, 03 broadband unlimited TX.”

I found that paragraph. But what I find on ch42 is the same as ch41. LCD v1.1.

I just bought one of these from Amazon. I thought I ordered what I would call the version 1 778UV but they sent me a 778UV-II instead (Ok they saved me $5). When I tried to access the test mode by "pwr down, hold func+F4 and power up/Enables CH39 to 43 to be selected" trick all I got was a blank white screen. The weird thing is it seems to already be unlocked. It can transmit the full 136-174mhz, 400-490mhz. I'm not complaining since I have both a HAM and GMRS licenses and enough sense not to stray out of those bands (I also have a AR-5RM). I just thought it was strange that it was sent to me already unlocked with no mention in the description.
