XPR 8400

Question

Posted

Looking for some advice here, so thanks in advance. I within the last few months I picked up a Motorola XPR 8400 for a price I couldn’t refuse (saved it from the dumpster). Looks great and turns out to work even better!  The only issue I’m having is the firmware. I have both cps 16 and cps 2.0, so programming wasn’t an issue 16. I ran into a problem when I purchased the wideband entitlement and then tried to register it. Being that it’s for 2.0, cps16 doesn’t recognize the entitlement. I started searching for updates and can’t find anything lower than 02.11.00( could me mistaken on the numbering). The repeater is currently running 01.08.00. Looks as though it was commissioned in 2014 and never touched again. I have seen posts and articles on the internet stating that it will need to be updated in steps, which makes sense, but anything lower than 02.10.00s no longer exists. Searched all of Motorola to no avail. Even called Motorola and their exact words were, “it’s kinda like a baby dinosaur at this point, so we really can’t help you with it.” 😂

Again, any guidance on how to get this thing up to date so I can use all it’s glory would be greatly appreciated.

Yea, unless you can find a friend that has the updates, it's not possible. Also, with 2.0, you would need to have an active firmware subscription on the repeater with is $$. I would suggest you stick with CPS 16, and find the modification that allows wideband (same as the entitlement, but you don't have to go through the hoops of registering it with Moto, because you can't anymore). It's probably why it was chucked, support won't even look at it.
