Hi. I have enjoyed GMRS but have been off the air for awhile due to health issues. Now I am getting back into the home office, and I am a bit confused. I read that the FCC stopped allowing networked repeaters, and our community had a very extensive network. Just getting on for a day or two, I don't hear the identifier come on every 15 minutes anymore, and I assume our networking has been turned off.

So, my question is, what is the latest on working around the issue while staying OK with the FCC? Are there any new developments? Where can I look toward learning more about the situation?

Thank you,

The FCC has not "stopped allowing it", they never allowed it to begin with but they did clear up some of the wording on their website so it is now less ambiguous/more clear, but no rules have been changed.

You cannot "work around it" and "stay ok" with the FCC. The (many) repeater networks that are still online are simply ignoring the FCCs rules knowing that the worst that will happen is that they have 1 in 1,000,000 chance of getting a mean letter asking them to disconnect their repeater(s) from the internet/other network connectivity.

There really is nothing more to "the situation".
