Tidradio TD-H3 Busy Lock issue. Not locking out other activity on frequency.

Question

Posted

I have multiple TD-H3 handhelds (latest firmware 240817) and operate a GMRS repeater that has several "community" channels on same frequency.  These different PL channels (different input and output PLs) provide an amount of privacy for each user group.  The TD-H3 Busy Lock only locks transmit when radio is receiving same PL as current programmed channel but doesn't lock transmit if repeater is busy by another group or PL.  So Busy Lock does me absolutely no good.  If it would lock out transmit if frequency is busy by anyone, I could live with it.  Anyone have a solution to this or do I need to find other handhelds?  AnyTone mobile radios have different busy lock functions that do what I want.

Make sure you didn't touch that auto-lock mode. Or it will explode! lol.💣💥

It doesn't seem to bring any new information to this... he says he's using the busy channel lockout, but it's not actually locking him out when the frequency is busy. Only when his frequency is busy on the same tone as he's using. The video shows how to enable the busy channel lockout...which he's using.

@Kenlynj does it do the same thing if you leave the RX tone off? This would be a niusance as you'd hear everything anyone on that channel transmits, but it would be useful for troubleshooting.

Not sure what the keypad lock has to do with what he's talking about.

Do not use the keypad lock, as it will prevent transmission. like my radio when you turn it on it will never transmit.

I think that with RX tone off, it will Busy Lock any traffic.  But like you said, this would then defeat the benefit of "Private" channel or group.

Either they changed something, or yours is broken (or something else is preventing transmission). I have 4 that I just tested, all of them will Tx with the keypad lock *on*. Both when I lock it manually, and when I let it auto-lock.

That’s a terrible design if traffic which triggers the busy channel lockout only occurs after tone squelch.

Yeah that's not great. I just tested mine (like I said above) and they do the same.

If I'm transmitting on an open frequency on Radio A, and listening with an RX tone enabled on Radio B, Radio B WILL transmit with busy-lock on.

If the Radio A is sending the correct tone, I get the "I can't" beep when I try and transmit on the busy-lock enabled Radio B.

Yeah, one of the values of a properly designed busy channel lockout is to prevent interfering with transmissions you might not hear because of tone squelch.  This design completely fails.

Alright, let me check on my issue. Thank you for the clarification.
