WSHD704 Posted Monday at 04:35 AM Report Posted Monday at 04:35 AM Is there a way to find any clubs near me. I want to learn. I hoping to be able to talk to my family. Looking for a new hobby. Quote
Socalgmrs Posted Monday at 04:38 AM Report Posted Monday at 04:38 AM Gmrs is not really a hobby, it’s a radio service hat one uses while doing a hobby. As for clubs I’d start here on this site and check for repeaters in your area. Also if you have line of sight to your family you may be able to talk to them simplex depending on distance and topography as well as radio and antenna GrouserPad, kirk5056 and AdmiralCochrane 3 Quote

Looking for a new hobby. It looks like there are several wide coverage GMRS repeaters in the area near you. yes, Go look on the repeaters map on this website. I sees at least three or four and they all appear to be open repeaters - free to use. WRUU653 and SteveShannon 2 Quote

Looking for a new hobby. I didn’t notice any GMRS clubs listed near you. As mentioned it looks like you have some good open repeaters near you that you and the family can use. If you’re looking for clubs I would possibly ask the owners of those repeaters or possibly look into Amateur Radio clubs near you. Sometimes you’ll find over lap and some repeaters are hosted by someone also in Amateur Radio. SteveShannon and TrikeRadio 1 1 Quote
TDM827 Posted Monday at 08:38 PM Report Posted Monday at 08:38 PM GMRS is great for family communications. And, if by clubs, you mean GMRS groups which give you access to regional repeaters, that's a solid plan. If you are also looking for a hobby and are interested in chatting and making contacts add a ham license to you plan. WSEZ864 and kirk5056 2 Quote

Of course, the Citizen Band Radio Service wasn't intended as a hobby, but unlike FRS / GMRS, CB Radio became a social media outlet. Yes, you can find GMRS Radio Clubs, but they're not going to as popular as Amateur Radio Clubs. Then again, you don't see much CB Radio Clubs anymore like back in the 1960s and 1970s. I'm sure you'll find similar forums about the Multi Use Radio Service. Of course, with only 5 channels, I doubt there are any MURS Radios Clubs forming. SteveShannon 1 Quote
