WSHJ586 Posted Saturday at 06:40 AM Report Posted Saturday at 06:40 AM I own 2 Tid H3. On one radio it won’t transmit on high power. Have latest firmware and done factory reset with no such luck. Done multiple antenna replacements didn’t improve a thing. Check and resubmit power settings manually with nothing. Any suggestions or just a bad radio???? Quote
Socalgmrs Posted Saturday at 08:14 AM Report Posted Saturday at 08:14 AM So I’m going to get blasted like I always do but the h3/h8 seam to have the worst reputation. And I tend to agree. On this site alone it seams weekly some has a big problem with one. Just take a look around. That weirdo dude that calls himself a queen always disagrees and recommends them all the time and therefore people keep buying them but I have seen in person about 1/2 of them are dead out of the box or close to it. After being in radios and using them every day all day long, talking to hundreds or people in real life and reading this and other sites it seams to me the H3 may be the worst hand held ever made. With the h8 right behind it(it’s just fatter so it can’t run as well) Tid, radioditty, retivis, midland and rugged should be looked at the the plague. blast away people but take a good hard look at this site and the other gmrs and ham sites. Any suggestions or just a bad radio???? Does it transmit OK on low power, or is it completely silent? All bands, or only UHF or only VHF? The assembly of these radios often requires manual soldering of the antenna connector's center pin to the PCB, and I've seen some bad solder jobs. I've also occasionally seen defective SMA male connectors on radios - no center pin, they forgot to thread the connector, etc. Jaay and Raybestos 2 Quote

The quality control of their radios doesn't seem to be the greatest. But if you email them they'll send you a replacement without an issue. Or if you did Amazon just request a return, but you'll have to give up both and wait for the replacements. I have 14 of them and had 3 that didn't transmit properly. All replaced without issue. When you get a good one they work well. Remember, you're buying a $30 radio. I'm betting there is zero testing, they just make'm and put them in the box. For the price they can't be testing them. I have no idea how they can make a radio with all the accessories and ship it out for the price they do. I bought a Smiley antenna that cost $27 just for the antenna. Quote

WSHJ586 Posted Sunday at 12:05 AM Author Report Posted Sunday at 12:05 AM Worked fine out of the box, after using Chirp had issue, after full reset same issue. I am licensed amateur and gmrs in U.S., however can only use 325mhz as I am in the Philippines until June. Quote

Did you save the "factory fresh" image by reading the radio with CHIRP and saving it to a disk file and never changing it? If so, loading that image and writing it to the radio should fix things. Sometimes manufacturers change the firmware (and memory locations of "internal" settings) but don't bother to change the firmware version displayed or reported to CHIRP. Quote
WSHJ586 Posted yesterday at 04:36 AM Author Report Posted yesterday at 04:36 AM Yes I did do that with negative results Quote

So, are you experiencing this issue with zero output when you’re trying to transmit on 325 MHz? What about when you try to transmit on other frequencies: 2 meter, 70 cm, or GMRS frequencies?
