  1. Today
  2. So that's great. You can program the repeater with no tone just how you wanted it. So you can't do it through the program, big deal. How many times do you plan on doing this? It's generally set it up once and walk away. Only in the very beginning do you play with everything. After you get it the way you like you'll rarely ever touch programming again.
  3. You're right, it's not the end of the world. It's sad that too many companies have bad customer service now days. I'm waiting to see how long a certain company takes to get me a return label for the items I received that I did not order and also how long it takes to get the items I did order. I ordered an Icom IC-2730B and received a Yaesu FT65 instead.
  4. If you want the repeater to remain more stealthy, no kerchunk makes it sound like people chatting on simplex..
  5. Thanks. I'll look at it. I don't even know for sure that I want it to "kerchunk" but I'd like to know how to set it if I want to.
  6. There is a setting for the kerchunk.. "STE" i think? I would double check for you but both of mine are boxed back up and ready to be given away to lucky viewers.
  7. It's not the end of the world to have to program "no tone" from the keypad, but it is a bit of a pain in the ass. The whole purpose of programming from software is to avoid crap like that.
  8. My RT97L arrived today, and I did some initial testing. Setup was a breeze using the software downloaded from the Retevis website. There is no software included, but the download was no big deal. There aren't a whole lot of things to set or change, so it's hard to goof it up too much. I didn't have a GMRS-specific antenna to test it with because my truck is loaned out, so I tried it with a few dual-band antennas. The Comet 2x4 had an SWR of 2.04, a couple of others had ~1.69, and once again, the much-maligned Nagoya UT-72 came out on top with an SWR of 1.23. I'll be interested to see what I get with an antenna that's tuned for GMRS. Power output was good -- 21-24 watts with all the antennas except the Nagoya. For some reason, I consistently got a reading of 26-27 watts with the UT-72. I can't explain why a different antenna would make a significant difference in power, but that's what I got. All the antennas were tested on the same NMO mag mount except the Nagoya which is an integrated unit. As far as I know, a different antenna and/or coax shouldn't change the power reading at the meter, particularly because the reading is taken before the RF energy even enters the antenna's coax. I wasn't able to test range, but I did confirm that it does indeed perform as a repeater. It doesn't "kerchunk" which surprised me a little. Not that I really care, but it was unusual. I hope to get this thing out to the field sometime soon, but my first impression is that it will be an excellent tool to have available for camping, hiking, or other outdoor activities.
  9. Sound similar to the response I got from Bridgecom when I contacted them about the CW ID cutting people off. Their reply after I had to ask several times was to just shut the ID off.
  10. I emailed BTech support and got a reply that you can't program "no tone" in the software; you have to do it from the keypad. I said that didn't make a lot of sense when you have software available. She got kinda snotty with me and said, "You do realize it's a GMRS specific repeater and you can't change the repeater pairs?" I said yes, I know that, but it doesn't address my issue. She shot back with, "Most of our customers prefer to do programming from the keypad anyway." I wanted to ask, "Or do they just program from the keypad because your software sucks?" but I figured it would be pointless and just let it go. Bottom line -- you can do it, but only from the keypad.
  11. I don't have "trust issues" -- I have "learned experience".

  16. just getting into the GMRS side of radio , I have been a ham radio operator for 20 + years the name is William located in Vero Beach i have my radio connected to my outside antenna at about 40 feet in the air hope to hear some people soon
  17. WHAT??????? You only brought 12 power rings for all of us????? Happy Easter everyone.
  18. This makes sense to me, but the TD-H3 doesn't have 'banks', so no way to separate them as far as I know. That would be nice, though.
  19. Just dropping in on this old post to say thanks. I was having a similar/same problem. Hooked her up to chirp and found codes on many channels. Works like a dream now!
  20. Crap, there’s 30 of us? I only brought a dozen doughnuts. Happy Easter everyone! ️
  21. As I mentioned on my last post (just above your reply) that I downloaded a copy last night and the restriction notice is no longer there.
  22. The saying "never bite the hand that feeds you" definitely fits here. A lot of people over there like to give long and convoluted replies trying to show their superior intellect while proving just the opposite. I made a reply on radio reference one time and kept things as simple as possible so anyone could understand the answer and quite a few jumped on me for it.
  23. EDIT: I didn't read onto the next page to see you answered my question haha.
  24. There's always that "one guy" that walks into the room and instantly puts out that "I'm here to complain" vibe. No doubt he could create a website that would be much better Sheesh
  25. On any given day there may be many posts. I’ve seen as many as ten pages of online users (including a bunch of guests) at any one time. Easter weekend might not be typical. If you are only seeing older posts you are doing something wrong. If you spent $50 to “unlock your computer from windows” you are doing something wrong. This site pays for itself by including advertising, but you can purchase levels of membership that completely block all advertising. It’s not unheard of for people to do something wrong, but it’s fairly stupid to blame everyone but yourself. There are some very smart people on this site who would be willing to help you but you kind of burned that bridge before you crossed it. Yes, you appear to be lost.
