My repeater is not open. It is only used for my ranch & range. I have gave permission only to a few other ranchers near me and the owners of leased land for the cattle. Every time the range is hot the range officer broadcast that. When it is cold too. It's a safety thing.

Agreed. An eventual reduction to zero is feasible. After all, as was pointed out there isn't a big operational gap between FRS and GMRS and FRS is already not licensed. GMRS was $70 for a 10-year term and is now $35 for a 10-year term. IDK, perhaps I've got the wrong perspective, but at a rate of $3.50 per year it sure doesn't seem like money is the FCC's motivation for GMRS licensing. Otherwise, they would be charging more and wouldn't have recently lowered the fee. I think that at some point the FRS/GMRS chaos will reach critical mass, and the FCC certainly has bigger fish to fry. I too had one of them there CB licenses back in the 70's that soon became irrelevant. I also had a cheap Kraco radio, and it worked great!!!

I guess you didn’t read or the rules you agreed to read when you got your license Follow the rules or don’t but you are giving incorrect information. If people other than your family are using the repeater you absolutely are required to have you repeater ID. FCC Part 95.1751 (c): (c) Any GMRS repeater station is not required to transmit station identification if: (1) It retransmits only communications from GMRS stations operating under authority of the individual license under which it operates; and, (2) The GMRS stations whose communications are retransmitted are properly identified in accordance with this section. the “if” and the “and” are key to understanding the rule regarding the need for repeater ID. It doesn’t say “or”.

Ignore the crass comments here on the forum. Everyone is a beginner at some point and sometimes if you are not at all familiar with something, the manual is not as intuitive as we would like. Asking question is okay! Like @WRYS709 Said: Welcome to MyGMRS.

yup, its a good idea to auto identify your repeater station, especially if it is an open repeater. At the end of the day, Its operation is the owners responsibility. Also a good idea to set up for remote access to disable if needed.. I have never had to remote shut down mine but a nearby friend has a few times due to jamming. Another thing he does, that i don't, i probly should, if he is away from montering range he shuts his down.. His is set up for continuous 15 minute ID intervals. I dont like that, i think it is silly, so i set mine for ID on Busy only on 15 min intervals. It's a personal preference thing. He does it so people can find and identity that particular repeate which has a very very wide operational range.

New to GMRS Loving It So Far, Looking for Advice on Mobile Setup
MSnow replied to WSIK420's question in Technical Discussion
This makes me cringe. I worked in 12v industry for so many years and running anything beyond a phone charge out of the cig plug is questionable at best. Even Garmin's and radar detectors we would 100% of the time hardwire them into better circuits then the lighter plug. Remember your voltage effects your power output as well. My kg1000g+ puts out the full 50 at 14.4 @ 9.7 amps if i pump up the voltage to 15 it puts out 51ish watts at 8amps. Most vehicles while running will have around 13.8v to 14.4v. -

Yes you should not have any issues with RT Systems.
-
Thanks for the reply. I use chirp and planning on changing the frequencies to use GMRS. Does the RT package offer the programming to do the same?

this guy fibured it out

GMRS is actually not bad until you get into the bigger cities..Then it seem's 'Game off' time

Stateside things were tight and we didn't have kids yet. But when I was stationed in Spain we even managed to save some. The exchange rate was very favorable, unlike Italy, England and especially Germany. Honestly, that was my best duty station. All the fun and no one was shooting at us. Although, it did come darned close a few times. The ETA really didn't like American servicemen.

The RT Systems softwares is not the same as the free software that you can download. I find the RT Systems software works better.

I was making $625 a month when I first enlisted. I did go in as an E-2 though. I forget what jump pay was at that time but it was nice to have the extra money per month. Everyone that is E-5 and below and also married are usually always broke. At least that was how it was when I was in.
-
I'll be purchasing the KG UV980P at "Buy Two Way Radios". I tried calling them, but they are closed. They offer a Free software download, but they also Sell the "RT Systems Programming Software and Cable For Wouxun KG-UV980P." I'm wondering if the software that's for sale (with the programing cable) is the same as the Free download. Does anyone know??? It doesn't make sense to purchase the software if it's the same... and the cable is only $16 bucks. Thanks
-
Goo heavens, you made that much. I remember my first months take home pay was &147.00. But by '75 I was an E-5, married and getting sep rats and quarters.

Except I then see it descending into to mess that CB is today.

Your repeater isn’t required to ID if and only if the only people who use it are people you have authorized to use your call sign and they identify correctly. If anyone with a different call sign uses your repeater, the repeater must be IDed. You can certainly do that manually and it definitely doesn’t have to be Morse code, but the repeater must be identified. Morse just happens to be built in for some controllers. Personally I prefer English language IDs also.

In Other Words, Your Repeater Station Users Are Required To ID, Along With Your Licensed Group Users As Well. Really No Need For Your Repeater Station To Auto CWID - Unless You Just Think It's Cool..... Unfortunately, This Can Cause Issues If You As The Licensee, Do Not ID On Your Station, Due To Auto CWID - Others May Follow Suit Thinking The Repeater ID Is Satisfying Their Repeater Station ID User Requirements. I Do Not Use Station CWID On My Repeaters For Just That Reason.

Welcome to the forum. Does the RICK controller have an ID function? The ID can be your call sign in Morse code if it’s easier. The RepeaterID breakout board can be used with the RepeaterID for use with “surplus repeaters” according to the website.
-
Devin, that is not a very helpful answer is it?
-
Why? You don’t need to, and it’s pretty annoying having to hear one every 15min.
-
I have a GMRS repeater using two Motorola CDM 750 radios with a Motorola RICK controller. How can I add a station ID? I saw a simple add on device from RepeaterID.com but it seems it is mainly for the Retevis repeaters. Is there some way to adapt it to my repeater? Thanks WSAU511
