  1. Interconnection, Wireline and PSTN references are all in rules that are pre-dating internet. They all pertain to switched telephone services and dial up connections voice audio. They do not pertain to point to point leased lines (that do not run through a telco switch) and they do not pertain to internet. Period. I worked with all this stuff, in commercial radio, back in the early 90's when only 1 guy in the neighborhood had dial up internet! There is no use debating HOW the internet is delivered or routed, it doesn't matter, internet is not PSTN in any form.

    newbie help...

I think the usual "stock antennas are junk" is kind of overrated. It's always nice to upgrade with better quality accessories over stock accessories, but, I think a lot of people overlook how well some stock accessories actually are. I've done some testing with various Nagoya antennas and various Baofeng antennas (stock antennas from different Baofeng models) and there was little to no difference. I feel the stock antenna actually receives better on FM broadcast than Nagoya and transmits and receives a bit better on UHF than Nagoya, with the exception that I did get an additional five feet distance with the 771 and 774 and the 805-3 seems to be closest to the stock antennas with FM broadcast unless the 771R or 774 is completely retracted. However, this is with my terrain and comparing with Nagoya. Perhaps a different make such as Comet or Diamond would provide better results to compare and different terrain. I've tried the stock antennas in basements and metal wall constructed buildings, and they seem fine, at least for the needs compared with Nagoya.

    newbie help...

Guess I may just keep the stock rubber duck antennas for my hts. The other day I took them out hiking and was able to get good range with them. Didn't test how far it could go but was a bit away and still clear with a lot of trees and bushes in between.

    newbie help...

I've read that particular antenna (771) isn't very good in urban terrain due to rf interference. We were maybe 1/4 mile apart when I was able to hear her transmission but lost contact quickly. We were using the stock rubber duck antennas on the v1 and uv5r.. I am not sure if the person I spoke to was mobile or not, I wasnt, and I slowly lost contact with him as well. What's strange is when I first got the radios we tested them out on a regular simplex channel and seemed to get better range and clearer than with the repeater. After trying the 771 and then putting back stock antennas it seems that the performance has degraded. Does atmospheric conditions play a big role in uhf like they due with cbs?

    gmrs antenna for repeater

I used this antenna for a couple years. exceptional omni performance. I think it is non-tunable, but comes pre-tuned for 467. It comes collapsed connected by coax that slides inside as you assemble it. It flexes quite a bit in 30 to 40 miles winds, I would expect damage in winds exceeding 60mph. I can not give a better recommendation for an omni as decided to switch to a yagi and a rotor.
