    GMRS not FRS hand held

Note: More power out the antenna equals more drain on the battery. So, even though a radio like the GMRS-V1 might only output 3 watts, if that is all you need for your uses then it is fine. Bigger is not necessarily better. In particular, if you are using a local repeater, less power is often a plus.

  3. In the past, I have used NMO mount type mobile antennas with great luck mounted in the middle of a 14 inch pizza pan. You can buy cheap pizza pans at those Dollar type stores. Get the thing outside if you can, and if you just want to make it temporary, use some kind of C clamp, or vice-grip pliers to clamp it to a railing or gutter, or suspend it from an awning with strings as if it were a hanging planter. NMO antennas on a pizza pan give much better results than a mag-mount.

  4. We have seen that the Google, Bing, Ask and other search engine spybots are camped out here reading new posts. Just a word to the wise... use your discretion in posting personal or sensative information that could possibly compromise your personal safety, security, lead to identity theft, or give non-licensed individuals a way to access your radio systems.
