  2. It's possible there's an issue on that particular hub. It was recently added so I'm not sure if something is up with it. Sometimes if you just power on your node the other nodes haven't had a chance to learn about your node, so when you attempt to connect they will reject you since you're not on the whitelist of registered nodes. Waiting 5-10 minutes at most will solve that issue since they will fetch the list of known repeaters and yours will then be on the list.

    Battery Backup

Ya'll got me thinking.. I have 400w solar, 4 6v RV batteries and a 2000w pure sine wave inverter in my 5th wheel camp trailer parked near the house. I've left the batteries in going on 5 winters and just let the quality charge controller handle the maintenance. I do check water twice per year but so far have been able to leave them through the winter with no issues. What I do not have is a base, mobile, or repeater installed in the 5'er but I was already considering installing one in the place where the AM/FM Stereo is from the factory, or I can find another spot easy enough. I had not thought of that for any kind of emergency use but more for our couple months per year camping. However, with 2 repeaters within HT range from the house (and one of them that hit me with ID from 50 miles while hunting at altitude) I guess it could be a decent base station if I want to play with it. From what I'm reading I already have everything needed except the mobile and antenna. ??

    Just for the eyes

That looks great if you ask me. I can show you a butcher job that I did building a 19” rack cabinet on wheels that holds a primary and backup repeater. It might not be pretty but it does the job and other than the wheels, I had everything else and decided to just use what I already had. It beats the price of a professionally built cabinet and I’m the only one that ever sees it. Now, if I end up having to relocate the repeater to a location other than my house, I’ll suck it up and spend the money on a real cabinet or ask you to build it lol. There’s no way I would want anyone to see my sad attempt at building one. Yours on the other hand, I’d be proud to show off, exactly as it is. Nice job !

  6. Upon further discussion,a relay just isn't necessary. A NPN transistor is more than adequate (I'm just use to larger, higher amperage electronics in my work like relays...I'm more mechanically inclined than electronic).

  7. I had completely forgotten about the Tk-370/372! Thanks @Lscot A friend helped me out a bit to figure some stuff out. I'll be using Squelch detect output (busy high, 5v) (CN4 #8) on the RX unit to signal the TX. Problem is that the PTT is 5v active and needs to ground in order to key. My plan was to use a 5v solid state relay controlled by SQL out on the RX, which would ground PTT on TX upon receive.

  8. My wild guess is the radio was modified to use an external speaker. The switch would have been used to select between the internal one and the external speaker, maybe both.
