    Motorola XTS5000

AFAIK no legit place will say anything about the software, but some places will accidentally drop a thumb-drive in the box with the software on it when they ship it.

The KG-935G is my favorite handheld. I have several 905Gs which are great radios, but having the ability to monitor other bands is great with the 935G.

  4. Here is a little review. Since I got the Nano VNA f I decided to test an antenna that I have had for a while. I had bought 2 for a road trip. Btech sells them for $29. They are a lot cheaper then buying a magnet NMO and nmo antenna. I have been happy with the 2m (144mhz) performance, It has ok performance with GMRS and I feel it has been meh with 70cm (444mhz) performance. So I wanted to see what the numbers were like as far as SWR. I have been mostly using it for repeater usage on 2M and GMRS. No luck on 2m simplex, FRS/GMRS works well for simplex when in range. Furthest GMRS repeater has been to Alexandria give or take 11 miles from the truck. The same antenna, is being tested on a cookie backing pan in my dining room connected to an FT991a. I have managed to connect to 2m Frederick MD repeaters which are 27+ miles away on 5 watts. Still can't make a simplex call 5 miles with the same setup running 30 watts. The stats from BTech 's website: https://baofengtech.com/NAGOYA-UT-72 Frequency Range: 136-174MHz, 400-520MHz; Optimal Frequency Range: 140-170MHz, 420-470MHzWave: 1/4λ (144MHz) - 5/8λ (430MHz)Gain: 3.5dBiMax power: 80 WattsVSWR : Less 1.5:1Impedance: 50 OHMConnector: SMA-F & PL-259Length: 20 inches So the VNA is showing the following. 144.562 National 2m SWR 2.53 :1 144.000 MHz SWR 2.89:1 147.999 MHz SWR 2.21:1 159.300-163.500 lowest SWR of 1.18:1 420.000 SWR 1.92:1 450.000 SWR 1.33:1 444.900-445.800 lowest of SWR of 1.3:1 FRS/GMRS Frequencies 462.5625 SWR 1.35:1 467.7250 SWR 1.40 SWR was 1.35-1.38:1 for most of the FRS/GMRS band. Lowest actually was at 1.27:1 at 464.575 - 465.763 MHZ well outside of Amateur radio and FRS/GMRS service allocations.

  5. I don't yet have my programing cable for the KG-1000G but I was wondering if it's possible to create a custom scan group of AM channels - in frequency mode? I like to listen to air traffic from time to time.

  8. The callsign format is 4 letters and 3 numbers. Your display name has a "1" in the 4th space; did you mean "i"?

I've been happy with all of my Wouxun radios, but I have to agree with OffRoaderX KG935G is my favorite GMRS handheld. Knobs are right balance between loose and stiff, display is customizable and easy to read. The dual frequency monitoring with ability to program a secondary transmit button is very helpful. The menu system and programming are my favorites among the Wouxun HT models. Hope you enjoy!

    Wouxun KG-UV9GX

I have one right here on my desk.. It's a nice upgrade the the UV9G.. The release has been delayed due to supply chain/shipping issues, but it should be available soon (my GUESS is 30-60 days, but this is only a guess).. Some new stuff on the UV9Gx: theme able color schemes much brighter LED flashlight stiffer knobs can receive down to 219Mhz more power control settings for better battery life a priority channel button, pre-set to the official highway channel, CH19 more pre-programmed frequenicies and most important a ROGER BEEP .................affiliate link below.. Oops.. sorry.. bad habit.

  15. First you have to know what repeater your going to get and see if it has an 25 pin accessory port. Don't get an ID-O-Matic. You'll need a raspberry pi, SD card with mygmrs image, a URIx, and of course the 25 pin cable. Check out the mygmrs store, you can get everything except the raspberry pi, you have to get that on your own. Learn how to use linux, then hop over to the technical discussion section.

    hi

I can credit Notarubicon for getting me into GMRS once again, after years in commercial and amateur radio. It was one of his videos on the new license process, and a Midland mobile. $70 dollars to the FCC via credit card, a couple of days later, I received the email with the new license. Then it was a couple of days and registering on this site, and confirmation maybe a day or two later. I recall some FCC database issue going on at the time, so it took an extra day somewhere in there to confirm call sign and become a member of this site.

    hi

Guest Sal, First you register for an FRN. That’s free. Then you pay for your license. Only after you pay for your license does the fcc issue a call sign. Your call sign is printed on your license. The FCC usually notifies you (using the email address you registered with them) so you can log on and download your license. It usually takes a day or two. Then a couple days later you can update your account here. Good luck! p.s. Notarubicon has a video that explains the process on YouTube.

    Wouxun KG-UV9GX

Some of the early UV9GPro and the UV9GLite had Roger beeps, but IIRC, the bulk of the UV9GPro units do not have a Roger Beep.. Due to the outcry of customers from around the world, they added it back for the UV9GX. Mid power is now 2watts, high power is still 5watts.. I dont remember what low power is, but its the same as the the UV9GPro. I'm only telling you this because YOU are my favorite user here at MyGMRS ...
