  1. I just checked out his eBay page I'm going to buy from him, thanks for the recommendation
  2. its G7 so sounds like I got 450-512
  3. I thing I bought the 450-512 but I'm not positive (I bought 2 for just over 20 bucks so ill be happy with either!) I have recently programmed a couple Motorola cp200 radios so I have a bit of experience, but I have never programmed or used a digital radio.
  4. Just picked my first digital radio vertex evx-534 does anyone know a good source for the programing software Can I get this from Motorola solutions?
  5. this might be a dumb question... but I cant figure it out; how do you change you display name from your call sing to whatever other name you would want,
  6. yeah that is a good description thanks for the link
  7. I haven't seen that one in a long time, great comparison
  8. I set the DPL on a couple handhelds: I set 3 different dpl tones all to gmrs channel 16 what I found was the radios I had set to CSQ could receive the different DPL variations it just talk to the DPL programed radio so it seems like the DPL tone just makes you radio picky on what it will listen to? doesn't seem very private just a way to filter out other radio users unless I'm getting this wrong.
  9. what is the difference between dpl and tpl? I've set tpl to talk to local repeaters but I'm not familiar with dpl as I was programming my radio I had 3 option TPL, DPL and CSQ
  10. thank you! I got it all worked out, radios are programmed and working well.
  11. thanks everyone. I got all 3 of my cp200's up and running, programed to the gmrs frequencies that I want and also to a couple local repeaters, it ended up being a great learning experience and now I have the software all set up and ready to go!
  12. a few minutes later my account with MOL was created and I can download the cps software every time I try to run it and read the radio it says it say "cannot create unknown radio component"
  13. I just used your link and applied for an MOL account, we'll see...
  14. thanks for the info. I spoke with Motorola and they said they no longer have software for these radios, I'm going to search the web for the software you mentioned and see what I can find: and yes I could have done more research before buying these radios however I am not worried about it, I'm just getting into this radio thing and soaking up what I can, there is always a learning curve. despite being very old these seem like very well built radios and still have aftermarket parts readily available, the software is is the only stumbling block so far.
  15. I just bought my first real gmrs radios; a few old beat up Motorola CP200's (upgrade from Baofeng starter) does anyone know were to get the software and what the difficulty is on programing these?
  16. seems like uv-5r or baofeng is a bit of a trigger word... its been working good on my local repeaters. if I was causing problems I would use good judgment and stop using it honestly if it weren't for baofeng I might not have realized my inters in radio.
  17. thanks for the information, durability is a very big factor for me ill check out the Kenwood TK-3270
  18. that makes me lean toward the 2500
  19. I've been scouting ebay for a few weeks and the prices are really going up, like they are being discovered by a new generation of people that want be prepared and have something reliable. I went with something cheaper and more simple for now (Motorola cp200) but I am going to keep my eye out for a good deal on a 5000 or a 2500 on the 5000 and the 2500 are you stuck with the frequency rang you buy or can you program then tp transmit on any frequency?
  20. yeah that radio looked like a really good bang for your buck and I've heard some good thing about it. I am pretty new to radio and very intrigued by DMR: how do you like using the dmr so far?
  21. Thank for all the great information everyone! I decided to work my way up to something more commercial/digital capable later on; For now I just ordered a bundle deal of Motorola uhf radios (5) cp200s with batteries, lapel mikes, program cable, software, chargers, extra batteries ect for 213$ seems like a good deal, hopefully these turn out to be good started radios, and something I can feel better about than my uv5r (not it doesn't have a place) I just really enjoy and appreciate using quality made equipment so hopeful these are... I don't know much about them.
  22. Pretty new to 2 way radio...Been rocken the Baofeng and I'm ready to step it up. I'm leaning towards a commercial radio that I can use on gmrs frequencies leaning towards a motorola 5000 (and yes I know that is not a legal gmrs radio that's not what I'm asking) I really value reliability and and would like something multi purpose, one concern is that they are getting old, would it be a bad move to spend that much money an older radio? I'm currently considering buying an xts 5000 military version uhf2 with battery and charger plus some programing for 400$ a couple others that a have considered are EF Johnson 5100 ant Anytone AT-D878UVII PLUS Anyone have have any advice on this?
  23. thank you! WRQC527 I just successfully hit my first repeater and had a conversation; came in loud and clear with the UV-5R lol
  24. Hello! Just got my GMRS license this last week, I am in Spokane WA. I'm really excited to start using radio. I'm going to try to use a local repeater soon, is there a way to transmit to myself to test if its its working? (by working I mean me properly using the repeater) I'm currently looking at radio option for an upgrade but at the moment I only have a baofang, I hear they have trouble with repeaters any suggestions?
