So based on the videos, I can have a GM conversation on either simplex or a YSF repeater between two yaesu GM capable radios privately? (i.e. you won't tie up the repeater with the conversation as long as you have the same DG-ID and GM enabled)

I have an FT70 as my EDC radio and other than battery life, love it. Anyone know more about the GM feature? I can't find that much info on the net about it- how would it be useful in a certain situation?

I have three of these and not regretting the purchase yet, if anything just for the coolness of operating the radio with the app. I did some testing of the range via texting and was able to get about a mile in my hilly neighborhood with the stock antenna.
