Wouxun KG-UVD1P is just what I've been looking for.
TNFrank replied to TNFrank's topic in Equipment Reviews
Not heard of that issue. Does anyone else know anything about this. It seems if this is the case the radio would have been discontinue long ago since it's a 13-14 year old design. Does this "suicide " happen with normal use or what? -
Right now the RA86 is at the top of my list but it's NOT CHIRP compatible. The BTech 20v2 IS CHIRP compatible so it might work. I just need to do some measuring where I'd planned to put the radio to see if it'll fit. I did give the Anytone AT-778UV a look because it's in CHIRP. Just need to see if it's all on the handset or if I'd need to mount it so I could get to the face of the radio.

Ok, so after looking at where the radio will be mounted it looks like something like the RetevisRA86 or BTech 20v2 would work best so that all the controls would be on the hand mic. I'd like more than 20 watts though if I could get it without spending too much. Any ideas?

Also, on another Heads Up, The Wouxun ANO-001 worked better for me on both the UV-82 and the KG-UVD1P(stock antenna for this radio) then the Smiley Duck 5/8 did so if you want a good upgrade for your antenna for the UV-82 check one of those out. https://www.buytwowayradios.com/wouxun-ano-001.html

Smiley Antenna Slim Duck GMRS 465MHz 5/8 Wave.??
TNFrank replied to TNFrank's topic in Equipment Reviews
Update. Don't waste your money. I had one on my UVD1P and couldn't talk to a buddy that was only 3/4 of a mile away. The factory Wouxun antenna that came with the radio on the Baofeng UV-82 would reach him no problem and when I put the factory antenna back on the UVD1P I could reach him too so the Smiley Duck isn't worth it IMHO. -
Picked up a Watt/SWR meter and did a little test on my radios. Pretty interesting results. Power Testing HT Radios..mp4

Also, you mentioned usb-c, you can get batteries for the UV-82 that are usb-c and larger capacity of 2800 miliamp hours. I have 2 on order from Amazon that'll be here Saturday. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0C3669GMD?ref=ppx_pt2_mob_b_prod_image

I had a BTech GMRS V2 and sent it back to get funds for a Wouxun KG-UVD1P. That being said I now have a Baofeng UV-82 and other than it being 1/3 of the price of the V2 I can't really tell much difference. I'd go with the UV-82(not the HP which is the same price as the V2)and not look back. Mine was unlocked right out of the box and I programmed it with CHIRP easy peasy.

I was also thinking about this for an antenna. I could mount it on the hood of the truck(passenger side or maybe even center of hood) next to the windshield and run the cable through the firewall where something else goes through so no extra holes. Should work well enough for my needs. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TT3HBLP/?coliid=I20EY50CQTVJM6&colid=H0N35ZAP0948&psc=1&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it

Randy's video on the Radioddity DB25-G I think that'll work well enough. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09C7JBBVY/?coliid=I2OC32Z5O4C4GM&colid=H0N35ZAP0948&psc=1&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_itAfter watching

Thanks for the replies. Here in Arizona DPS is still using 460MHz and I scan the 4 local channels on my HTs all the time. I don't have to put the radio in the stock location, just thought it might be easier that way but my cup holder is messed up so I can't retract it so I have a big hole to mount a radio if I needed too. As far as antennas, as long as I didn't have to make too many holes I could make a second location for it if I had to. I'm just trying to keep things simple. CHIRP compatibility would be a big plus and I'm not opposed to a radio I could "unlock"(like with the UV-5R's)in order to get GMRS and even MURS with scan only for 460MHz. I've found a few radios on Amazon, need to research them a bit more but wanted to get y'alls input too.

Now that I have my HT's sorted out I'd like to add a radio to my truck. I'd like something that could replace my current AM/FM radio since I really never listen to it and if I did want to listen to a local FM station I'm sure I could use the GMRS radio like I do with my HT. I'd like it to be able to scan 460MHz(DPS/Highway Patrol) channels so I can keep track of what's going on while driving. I plan on using my factory antenna location on my truck for the new radio's antenna location so I'll not have to make any new holes. Does anything like this exist? Is there a radio that'll do this without breaking the bank? Thanks.

Also if you listen to a narrow band channel set to wide band it'll sound fine but if you try to listen to a wide band channel while set to narrow band it'll sound wrong.

Wouxun KG-UVD1P "Dealer Channel Mode"?
TNFrank replied to TNFrank's question in Technical Discussion
I have the radio set up just the way I like it so it's not a huge deal. I'm sure someone will chime in eventually and then we'll all know what it does. -

I am going to make a video about the 5 things that I've found out about it that I don't like. They're not "Deal Breakers" by any means but still, if a cheap UV-5R has these features then this radio should have them as well but like I said, I still really like this radio. That's why I bought a 2nd one. -
Wouxun KG-UVD1P "Dealer Channel Mode"?
TNFrank replied to TNFrank's question in Technical Discussion
I was thinking it was to unlock the radio for all the frequencies that it was able to Tx/Rx on but then you can also do that in CHIRP in the Settings as well. I don't want to try it if I don't know what it does. -

Man this topic has gotten WAY Off Topic. LOL. I simply want to say what a Great Radio I think this is(HAM or GMRS/MURS aside) and we've gotten off on FCC Rules/Regulations and the Law and Going to Jail. Almost sorry I posted this. -

He was jamming a repeater so someone turned him in. I don't plan on doing any such thing. Unless someone want's to be a KAREN and turn me in for owning a HAM radio with GMRS frequencies programmed into it then it's "no harm, no foul" as far as I'm concerned. -

From what I understand IF you do get an infraction from someone turning you in it's in the form of a letter then another letter then a letter saying that you're going to get a fine then finally the fine. I honestly don't think FCC folks cruise around in their vans just looking for someone using a HAM radio on a GMRS frequency to bust. There's no profit in it for them. Also, wouldn't they have to log that into some kind of book that would later be posted somewhere? Just saying that I think they're not worried about me or you as much as you think they are. -

I think this is a pretty good video that sums it up nicely. Thanks Randy. -

The FCC has to post infractions that were enforced on their web site. Just look up how many people have been busted for transmitting with out of band radios. I'd be willing to bet it's ZERO.
