Short answer is I have selected a repeater channel with the least traffic in my area. I monitored and researched out channels that would be appropriate, then determined a tone that would not conflict with other repeaters. The open repeater in question is very low traffic and in the distance. There is another repeater near by on a different tone and it does not appear to be problem with ours if the radios are setup correctly. There is just no clean channel we can use due to the amount of repeaters in our area and changing channels for our entire CERT and fire district at this point would be challenging.

That is what I have noticed as well. I think all this gets me what I need to know about my repeater situation. Fortunately, the no tone repeater in my area is much weaker and 45 miles away. So it's not a problem for most my users, but some. I am just surprised anyone would setup a repeater with no tones in general.

This is all what I thought, thank you for confirming. The only real solution that I can see to ensure someone only hears the repeater with Tones they want, is to make sure their channel is set to T-Squelch instead of just Tone. That will allow filtering for just signals with a specific Tone.

Will an open repeater (Repeater with no tones) be triggered by a station on the same repeater channel but with programmed tones? I am trying to understand if two repeaters in the same area are using the same channel, but one requires tones and the other does not, will the open (NO Tone) repeater open squelch when it receives a signal from a station using a Tone and repeat that traffic.

Btech also told me the CPS is not currently working on this new firmware version and they needed to update it. With the old firmware I could not get it work on Win11, but I could using Win10. After I updated the repeater, it would not work using Win10 anymore. I was told to wait for them to update it. So they know the CPS is broken. Fortunately, from what I can tell, I can do everything I need from the hand mic programming except name my channels. Other than that, the repeater works good.

It's mostly the same. BTECH told me they fixed a bug with one of the settings in CW ID, but there is not inactivity timer or hours you can set. You just get ID by timer, unkeying or can just turn it off.

Honestly, just add it as a new channel. Enter the frequency, make the offset "plus", and add the tone to CTCSS TX/RX. I personally like to use T-SQL for the Tone mode so I hear just that repeater on that channel. Program this through the CPS is easiest. Otherwise with the 935G+ you have, you can use the channel wizard. If you don't know how to use that, maybe search youtube for a tutorial. I am pretty sure I saw one at one point in time. And to see frequencies, you need to change the channel mode to CH+Freq in the settings. Again, easily done in the CPS.

935G plus is my go to radio. I highly recommend it based on countless tests against Baofeng and TID Radios that I have done. They are a more expensive radio than most but I have not been disappointed by it's overall performance and capabilities. The other thing for me, is I have tested power output on many radios. The 935G+ has been the most consistent in "advertised" power output (close to 5 watts and in some cases more). Other radios in the Baofeng and TID radio department are hit or miss on output. For me that is the difference from making contact in a unique location I visit to not making a contact. That little bit of extra juice makes the difference for me against other radios I have tested from same location.

I didn't realize this. I usually do all my programming through RT Systems so I guess I never noticed. Good to know as I assume you are programming manually through the handset.

This is not the HUY600 repeater. As for the name cooper mountain, not sure how that came about or if it has actually been confirmed the GMRS repeater is on cooper mountain. At one point I heard Portland Heights or Forest Heights. I don't know that anyone knows where this repeater is unless someone can confirm it's location here? I have asked about this and nobody seems to know and sounds more or less like a guess of location. It's not a registered repeater anywhere that I can find and no auto ID takes place other than ID of stations using the repeater. Who ever set this up did a good job because it is the best repeater in the whole area hands down based on the number of stations who can actually reach and hear this station from far away. I would like to know more about the setup myself... Also, the cooper mountain I am hearing reference to is on 462.6500 not 462.625. Tone is 107.2 These are the only other repeaters on 625 I have found 462.6250 POR18R 156.7 Hz Overlook 625 repeater in the Overlook district in Portland 462.6250 ESTC625 67.0 hz Estacada 625 Repeater 462.6250 WQMB268 D 125 Unknown RPT ID: WQMB268 Riverdale NET 625 is also on this frequency but is private, no tone listed. And known repeaters on 650: 462.650 MOL19R 100.0 Hz Molalla repeater 462.650 HOPE650 141.3 Hz Hopewell RPT North of Salem - Tuesday NET 6:00pm 462.650 KAG0945 203.5 Hz Unknown RPT ID: KAG0945 - 462.650 COOPMTN 107.2 Hz Portland, Forest Heights or Cooper Mountain. No ID. Sellwood NET is also on this frequency but is private, no tone listed.

To be honest, there is a lot of good reasons to have an affordable back up radio like the H3. This is a back up for me or basically my wife to use in the event we get separated. The radio can be locked down and made easy enough for her to operate. I landed on the H3 based on many reviews and it outperformed most all of the budget radios in the power department when tested. I just cannot believe nobody highlighted the channel limitations in GMRS in any of the reviews I have watched. It still doesn't hit the advertised 5 watts but I will take 4 1/2 watts over a Baofeng 3 watt. That said, I couldn't justify spending money on another KG-935G Plus which is my main handheld. The bottom line is TID Radio should have better disclosed the limitations of this radio which hopefully they will acknowledge in a firmware update if they listen to my feedback. We will see.

Just GMRS. I wouldn't be programming any HAM frequencies.

That was going to be my next question/test of the radio. Will the other channels transmit on GMRS frequencies if the radio is in normal mode. You have done this and it works?
