  1. I do good hearing Fire&EMS, but I can't seem to get GMRS. I got in to this to look at the traffic going throw my club repeater. But when I go to our frequency both on in put and out put I do not see anything. I tried NFM and WFM. I currently using SDR++. SDR-Sharp performed the same. I can only think I'm over looking a setting some where. Any suggestions?

    Mobile antenna

With that SWR I don't think it is the ground plane. Can you give more info?
  3. Go with an antenna with a good db gane. you can get a nice one for under $100.

    Real name

If you use your GMRS call sign any can look up your full name so I don't see the point in using a nick name unless that is what you wish to be called.
  5. lol My antenna cost more then my radio for a long time when I first got in to GMRS. don't let anyone shame you radio go out and have fun...
  6. I know Chirp is not loved my everyone but can't you just get the cable and use chirp. after all it is just a UV5R with less spurious emissions Right?
  7. To stay on the cheep a nagoya UT-308UV or Nagoya UT-72 placed on a cookie sheet on the roof will make that trip... but you will look like me and you don't want that. but it will work and it is on the cheep side. Get you dad to put in a repeater and you all can just keep using you HT's
  8. Line of sight can factor in. I'm thinking you are able to hit it in the morning and evening when the noise levels are low. The Nagoya 771g might help at 15.6" and a 3 dBi you will so much better then the stock antenna..
  9. I'm taking my HT down the driveway closing my gate. carrying all the other stuff sounds to heavy. I would shelter in place where all my toys are... WASQ406
  10. Corgrats I look forward to hearing you on the air... WSAQ406
  11. How many watts are in 2 beer cans and a string?
