Hi Shawn - nice to meet you. I'm in the Burgettstown/Hickory area and I'm wondering the same thing. There's a big repeater in Pittsburgh that has a good reach, but the operator isn't responsive which kind of leaves us searching for a solution. I think Nevin (owner of this club) lives in Washington too, so maybe we can put our heads together and figure out a solution for all of these hills and trees! Take care and talk soon..

Good morning. I'm also new to radio and currently studying for the HAM tech license. My first blush with GMRS in Southwest PA is that I may have to build my own repeater to make a go of this as repeater owners don't seem to respond for requests for permission. I'd like to expand my use out a bit further than my own hometown and really like the family use aspect of GMRS, but in my limited knowledge, it seems that you have to have (large) repeater access given our hilly terrain - or be willing to build your own.
