Which adapter fits the antenna mounting point for the Wouxun KG-Q10G??
WRNZ515 replied to WRNZ515's question in Technical Discussion
Thank you all. And yes, Sshannon, I'm a big fan of Randy and his channel (and I'm not referring to a channel of the GMRS variety, of course). As appears to be the case with many new GMRS afficionados, it was Randy's channel that really fueled my interest in pursuing GMRS a couple of years ago (but please don't tell him I said that or else I'll have to buy him a coffee if I ever meet him; this is just a totally private, discreet, otherwise invisible comment from me to you, right?). WRUU653, thanks for the suggestions. As for WRPX381, I trust that his intensions are honorable and that he is more acquainted with GMRS regs than I am. I haven't outright dismissed what he wrote, and overall I appreciate his efforts. -

Ahh. Very good. Again, thanks for the explanation. Transmitting data is lightyears beyond the scope of what I intend to do with that unit. I'm going to likely die of old age before I even begin to figure out how to "transmit data" through the airwaves. So, I obviously over-bought, buying some functionality I'll never use. I can live with that. Thank you for that straightforward explanation. And I'll continue to use this blogg to ask earnest questions as I did, in the hope that I'll continue to get solid answers like yours from which I can continue to grow in my understanding. -

Ouch. Thanks for the explanations, gentlemen. Eye-opening. If I'm seeing correctly, though, it isn't "'broken' broken" in that I am still able to screw it back into place and there's still a pin fixed into the center of/protruding from the hole on the radio itself that I did not break off. That is, so apparently the wrong point unscrewed, and I get that now, but I don't have any reason to believe that doing so actually broke anything. It screws right back into place where it was when I received it with no problem. I suppose that at this point I could experiment to see if I can unscrew off of the tip of the antenna the part that SHOULD HAVE unscrewed had the factory not glued it on. Very very very disappointing manufacture technique on the part of Wouxun. With my straightforward desire to simply attach a car roof antenna it's not as if I'm trying to do something that would be beyond the scope of what that unit should legally be capable of doing, in that doing so would still be attaching just a different GMRS antenna with a very normal and very legal desire to simply use the GMRS band more efficiently with the alleged 6 watts that's pumped out by that now less than impressive radio (in a band that LEGALLY provides for the use of radios that are up to 50 watts). Meanwhile, I was about to hit the 'submit reply' button here when I received a notification of a note from WRXP381, who sent his note to me as a separate stream to me on this blogg, and I have to say I'm rather surprised at his comment. I'll withhold judgment as perhaps in fairness to him (and to me, if I've somehow committed some bizarre violation of FCC rules that I'm not aware of????) he simply doesn't understand what I have explained and keep trying to explain in more detail. But here's what he just now wrote to me separately: (((His message: "Hey I’m sorry about your radio. I wanted to send this message as I don’t think a public forum is a place for this. As others have already said the part you’re trying to match was supposed to stay in the radio. The radio is now trash. Removing a glued in antenna works for some people but most if the time this is the outcome. If you want to stick with a type certified radio just plan on the antenna not being removable. If you need or want a removable antenna I highly recommend not purchasing a gmrs type certified radio. Many manufacturers make great radios that have removable antenna’s in all different price ranges. And remember all hts are going to transmit the same distance so in the end your paying for features not miles. I hope the next one works out better. Personally I won’t pay more than $40 for a hand held radio. This way if they get lost or stolen or left behind or dropped or broken or what ever else I’m not out much." (bold emphasis mine))))) I don't do much blogging and I've already admitted that I'm an old school analogue guy (with emphasis on the "old" in that I'm probably one of the oldest men on this particular forum) in a digital world, but somebody please kindly tell me if I'm misreading his comment here. Quoting in part again, he wrote "...I don’t think a public forum is a place for this" and "If you want to stick with a type certified radio just plan on the antenna not being removable. If you need or want a removable antenna I highly recommend not purchasing a gmrs type certified radio" and "the radio is now trash." Again, I'm just looking to get along in this community that's new to me and to learn as I go from men and women who've already figured this stuff out. So please, SOMEBODY objective here, tell me if I'm wrong in saying that I bought that handheld and with the best of intensions wanted to LEGALLY upgrade the antenna, and that I came onto this forum simply seeking acquired wisdom from folks who've treaded this ground before me. Okay, let's see here. First, the radio is NOT "now trash." And a "type certified radio?" Really? What am I missing here? They're ALL "type certified." If I buy a CB radio with an antenna glued to it (without me knowing it's actually glued on), there's no ridiculous rule that says "well, it's a TYPE CERTIFIED radio and therefore you are breaking all sorts of laws to remove that antenna." Same goes if I buy a ham radio with an antenna already glued onto it. Same goes if I buy a stinking hand-held cheap-oe am/fm transistor radio to listen to music and talk radio; just because the antenna's glued onto it doesn't mean I can't legally detach that factory antenna and add one that's better. Honestly, folks, what am I missing here? And this guy is telling me that he doesn't think this forum is "a place for this?" Then what are these public forum bloggs for? That comment is what strikes me as what's inappropriate, not my inquiry here. Seriously, men, I'm not looking for arguments; I really want to understand. Did I get this wrong? I haven't been trying to do anything illegal or inappropriate...not on this forum or anyplace else (at least not as far as I understand), so somebody please clue me in here and either correct me if I'm wrong or clarify that that guy's comment is what was inappropriate. And please, somebody else answer my questions here--someone other than WRXP381, who is telling me I've done something not "appropriate" here as if I've posted porn. If my sincere query on the GMRS blogg is not "appropriate," then what is "appropriate" here? What the heck are these bloggs for?? -

WRNZ515 replied to WRNZ515's question in Technical Discussion
Okay, I'm obviously mixing up the nomenclatures here. But it doesn't matter; it is neither an SMA plug nor a "SO-239" end that fits. SMA or SO-239, whichever end it is, neither plug works. It is something else entirely. It is not an SMA end. -
Which adapter fits the antenna mounting point for the Wouxun KG-Q10G??
WRNZ515 replied to WRNZ515's question in Technical Discussion
Thanks, Randy, but I as I mentioned in my initial question, I already got the factory antenna off (after it was actually you who answered my question posted in another forum about whether or not it comes off). Based on your input (again, I appreciate that), I just applied a bit more turning torque than I was originally comfortable doing, and it worked! Then, I bought the precise connector described in my initial question here...and again, it simply doesn't fit. It just doesn't fit. I'll attach photos here of the Wouxun radio, the factory antenna screw-in tip, and the adapter I bought, the end of which is clearly not the same as the screw-in tip of the factory Wouxun antenna. As I said in my initial question, whatever that "SO-239" plug is, it is NOT the one Wouxun uses. Does anyone recognize the type of screw-in plug that's on the end of my factory Wouxun antenna? If so, please tell me what it is so I can buy an adapter. Thanks. -
I own a Wouxun KG-Q10G. Among other things I want to have it with me in my car as a backup GMRS, and I want to be able to connect it to my roof antenna's coax (with the standard UHF connector on the end of the coax) so that I can get more effective range. Thinking it would fit onto the antenna mounting point of my KG-Q10G, I purchased a "UHF female SO-239 to SMA Female adapter" to connect the Wouxun to the coax for my magnetic mount roof antenna. Seems simple enough. So, I unscrewed the factory antenna off the Wouxun only to find out the hard way that---of course---the adapter I bought does not fit into the Wouxun! What the heck! I'm an old Army vet, so I came from a world where everything fits/everything is made to be compatable. And I suppose the last thing the Wouxun manufacturers wanted to do was to make life at all simple by simply including in their operator manual any reference to the name/nomenclature/model of the kind of antenna socket they chose for that radio. So folks, the obvious question is: what stinkin' plug fits into/will screw into the Wouxun KG-Q10G antenna hole? Thanks for your help. Which adapter fits the antenna mounting point for the Wouxun KG-Q10G??
