Closest thing you could get to what your looking for is a Repeater and run it in base station mode. Btech makes one and I think retivis. But with that said all they are is a mobile radio with a power supply crammed into a box. In fact if your being technical almost every electronic runs off dc voltage so when you plug it into AC its converting it to DC it just has the power supply built into the device. So the answer is buy something like a Wouxon KG1000G Plus and get a Power supply and enjoy, because its the same thing as any other base.

This is about the only thing I find, you might call them directly to purchase.

I'd like to see it, but i don't trust your files to not have a virus.

Yes, but in a lot of vehicles, getting a consistent 10 amps through the cigarette lighter plug can be impossible.
This makes me cringe. I worked in 12v industry for so many years and running anything beyond a phone charge out of the cig plug is questionable at best. Even Garmin's and radar detectors we would 100% of the time hardwire them into better circuits then the lighter plug.
10 hours ago, WRYZ926 said:That really depends on the radio, each will be different. Some 50 watt radios will draw up to 13-14 amps while transmitting on high power. The Icom IC-2730A draws 13 amps and the Wouxun KG-1000G draws 12 amps. Each brand/model will vary on how much current they draw.
Remember your voltage effects your power output as well. My kg1000g+ puts out the full 50 at 14.4 @ 9.7 amps if i pump up the voltage to 15 it puts out 51ish watts at 8amps. Most vehicles while running will have around 13.8v to 14.4v.

I have tons of radios, when I caught the bug i started getting everything that came out and seemed awesome. Unfortunately most of that is marketing. Here is what I found. When it comes to GMRS radios none of them are as good as the Wouxon radios, for mobile the KG1000g plus. The MXTA25 is one of the best if not the best antenna you can get it really is amazing. With that said if your not mounting it with a ground plane like the middle of the roof you would be better off getting a ground independent antenna. Comet has the GI series coming out they are primarily designed for vehicles that are not made of steel, but will work well for fender mounts. The other options that are good are to get old commercial radios like Kenwood, Motorola, or iCom. Hope it helps.

Just got permission to use a local repeater. The owner said to use a specific access tone DCSxxxN. x=a number he said not to post anywhere. On the Chirp software, there is no DCS option for tones, only DTCS. I can load the number he sent, but CHIRP is automatically loading "NN" as DTCS polarity. I'm not getting thru to the repeater so I must be loading something wrong. Any ideas? Wonder if this is a digital repeater, if so I can't use it on my Baofeng. Thanks!
Sounds like you might just be to far away. Especially on a handheld even if your in the estimated distance of the repeater you might need to walk around and see if you can find a spot. Best way you will know this is if you cannot hear people talking on the repeater then you won't be able to open it either. Find a place where the traffic is coming in perfectly clear then try again. If still no then program it on the radio and not chirp, and ensure you have the correct offset as well. Good Luck Have fun its always a learning process.

I have setup a GMRSNode with a Verizon orbic RC400L and it does not show online or connect to any hubs. My buddy has the identical hot spot and his node connects perfectly fine.
I have added the IP address to the DMZ on the Verizon hot spot, without success. I also created port forwarding rules that do nothing as well. Not sure what else to do.
TIA

Assuming your creating a node only network and talking over DVswitch or Zello only, I would think the network admin would be able to help more then someone on here since most here is just RF related. With that said with my limited knowledge of nodes I would say it sounds like you have a config issue, that your node number is not registered or approved for the network. In which case again you would need to contact your network admin.

I also have this repeater and by timer, i can not get it to ID to save my life. I've followed all instructions to the T and it will still only ID on TOT but not on timer. RepeaterID makes a general purpose CWID transmitter that simply hooks to the Kenwood port of an HT and the other into the ID device. from there it xmits the CWID from the HT that is progg'd to the repeater. it works 100% and i dont worry about this repeater ID'ing. I dont work for, or are affiliated with RepeaterID, just wanna help, i know the frustration.
An alternative option would be to build a Allstar node with a RasberryPi, then connect the node to a URIxB, and then make the db25 to db25 cable to the FR4000. Make sure to push the remote button so that the green light is lit for the remote on the front of the FR4000. The node can be programmed however you want for CWID and time. This would also allow you to change to ham frequencies and link your repeater in the future if you decide to change over to ham from GMRS.

I have made it 460 miles with tropospheric ducting Montgomery, TX to Mobile, AL this was on may15th 2025 on 700. The whole coast line from Texas over to Alabama was white. The majority of the Gulf of America was white hot as well. You can use https://www.dxinfocentre.com/tropo.html to find out if your ever in a good opening and try for some farZ contacts.

I bought the antenna a couple of months ago and didn't open the package until yesterday. I was surprised to find there were no ground plane radials included. Is this normal, or did I just get unlucky? It wasn't too big a deal, because I bought some 10" pieces of all-thread which should work just fine. The thread size is M5-0.8, in case you're interested. It seems to me that the radials are something which should be included. Maybe mine just slipped through that part of the assembly line.
Mine came with them in the bag. Maybe email them and let them know they were missing and see if they will send you new ones.

So I have a question. Why does Texas not anougg repeaters? Texas is a big state and has lots of land.
There are a lot of repeaters in Texas. I am assuming your asking why they are not all listed on mygmrs and I cannot tell you that answer. All I can tell you is there are plenty there, and they are all listed in different resources on the web. Here is a snip of just one website that shows some GMRS repeaters in Texas.

There should be a button to press to make it switch back to showing the ch numbers. Most HT's its labeled V/M or maybe FREQ.

Hi
I'm all new to this, but how can I find all available details for repeaters in Houston to program my Tidradio H3.
Any help is appreciated. You will need to join the Texas GMRS network which is free to get the info for all the repeaters. There is a Facebook group as well you can join to connect with folks. Since the repeaters have been unlinked its pretty rare to hear any activity on them. Some of the repeaters have been damaged by storms and tornados last year and not getting repaired. While others have been completely removed all together due to no use, but they still show on the website.

I’m new at this and was wanting some of your thought on choosing cable and a antenna for base unit.
You can shop around for deals and many of the YT people have codes you can use for discounts. I ended up with the Comet CA-712EFC 460-470MHz 9 dBi Gain base antenna, and I used the premade Messi & Paoloni hyperflex 13 premium .500" coax w/PL259 connectors. I also had to get an N male to UHF female adapter and silicone seal shrink tube too. With all the discount codes I found, and sales they had going on I was able to get everything for less then $250 including shipping.

My old Jeep is noisy. I added a Lido headrest speaker and used a 3.5mm "Y" adapter to connect the speaker to both out puts as directed in the manual. I only get output on the external speaker to area b, no matter how I have the speakers set on the radio (radio, mic, both)
What is going on with this radio?
You need a different y adapter. the outputs on the back of the radio are one single channel each. So you can get a Y that has 2 male single channel plugs that converge into a female 3.5mm that is stereo or 3 bands. You then need a speaker that has the stereo plug on it. I pasted a picture here that has the male versions so you can see the difference. And labeled the Positive and negative parts of the jacks. So you want a y adaptor with 2x 2 pole male to 1x 3pole female, and a speaker that has a 3 pole male. You could get a y with 2 male 2 poles to 1 female 2 pole, but this would not be the best option but will work.

Brand new to all of this, so pretty sure this is an operator error issue...
After pressing the menu/enter button and toggling to Repeater(09), I haven't been able to select the "off" to switch to "on" by pressing the menu/enter button. When I do so, I get sent back to the Home Screen. This doesn't happen with other functions. I've gone through the manual a number of times will little enlightenment. I'm a Mac guy so the programming software isn't an option. Any suggestions?
It tells you in the manual you cannot change the option unless you set the radio into frequency mode. Once you change it it will allow you to change it.

I got a couple of these radios when amazon had them on sale last week. I had the same issues for the most part. I like the radios but they are very different from every other GMRS radio I have owned.
Yes you are correct, once you create your 30 custom channels in a group.
1. goto click the cog
2. select Channels & Groups
3. Select Import Device Channels
4. Add a title for the ch list and save it to your phone
That way when you change something you can always upload it back from your phone to the radio.
Its really quite useful when travelling, so you can load in channels for each city your passing through, and not have to worry about preprogramming the radio with a limited amount of channels.
Another issue that stumped me for a bit was the DTC tones. I had some repeaters that used TX/RX DCS-423N but if I put that in it won't TX or RX the repeater. I had to put it as 423I which shows as 315N/423I so I am guessing the firmware has them reversed as they are listed so if you need 423I you would select 432N/315I.
The Network channels are quite interesting as well, but not sure how they actually work. Seems like linked radio through the phones internet, but maybe its dead now never hear anyone talking on it.

The new software won't recognize USB ports above 9. When I plug in the USB cable to program the repeater, it goes to COM 11 or 12. Useless.
If Windows assigns a Com port higher then 9 just go into device manager and change it to one lower, pretty easy fix.

I'm new to the radio world. I'm a GMRS license holder (WSDV406). My interest in radio is mostly for emergencies and SHTF scenarios. My question is: With the arrival of radios like, but not limited to, the TIDRADIO H3 -- which are capable of tx and rx on HAM and GMRS frequencies -- is there a single antenna for HT's that works well for both bands? Or would you need to have one for each band and swap them continually.
Please don't get overly legal. I'm not talking about regular transmission.....I'm talking about emergency and SHTF scenarios. Also, if you can help it, please don't get too overly technical. I'm willing to learn (and am learning a LOT), but i'm looking for the simplest answer.......if one is possible. The antennas that come on the radios from the factory are typically decent at everything. I have bought several different brands expecting to have better performance and from my experiences there is no difference over the factory antennas. When your talking about a HT, the improvements are mostly so small you can't and won't notice the differences. Now with that said if you get something like a magnetic mount Midland MXTA12 & MXTA26 you will notice some improvements and just use an adapter to the HT. I had that antenna on a KG1000g Plus and was picking up tons of chatter from rail roads, Ham nets, and Fire, EMS frequencies really well over any antenna i ever wasted money on for my HT. Just my .02.

If you have not figured this out yet you need to adjust your simple USB settings most likely this was the same issue I had. I'm surprised you didn't find this searching the forums.

Does anyone have the pinouts to connect to the PI?
Also there was talk somewhere else that they had to set the unit to simplex mode.
That simplex mode was mislabeled in the software , it actually disables the internal controller and still works as a repeater.
And that if it was in duplex the COS would not stay on while repeating making it not transmit into the net.
Is this true, Has anyone tried this. or was this just a defective unit.
I don't have one yet but am looking for more info before I buy one.You can get the Pin out from the RT97S to the URIxB from several places on the net. the URIxB connects with USB to the PI.
Yes when you are setting up Aterisk you select option 1. Simplex with Telemetry
The simpleUSB settings I posted a SS of is what fixed mine. The factory settings that came on the RT97S myGMRS img file did not work for mine.

I don't own a Q10H, I do have a 9PX. I would recommend either. The 9px you can only get from bsr and it comes preprogrammed with about 900 memories in it. The Q10H is newer model with more features like GPS, but you will need to enter your own memories. I don't think you can go wrong with either IMHO. My 9PX is my EDC and it works fantastic.
GMR2-PLUS Channels on a KG-1000G

For future reference, typically on GMRS radios they are type accepted meaning the first 30 channels can't be changed. if you copy pasta one of those channels to memory 31 you can change adjust add tones as you please with now issues. they are just required to lockout those first 30 for fcc approvals.
