It was only granted yesterday.  The database might not be updated until this week sometime.

Kudos to you for managing to navigate that dumpster fire of a website to get that data.

Do you have to sacrifice a small child every time to get it to work?😂

Greetings! New licensee here!  Been a ham for 25 years and thought I'd explore a new part of the spectrum!  Lots of useful and helpful info here.  I look forward to being a part of the community.

    Welcome!

this problem started a little before the solar weather and has continued on. I picked up a plain uv5r and now its screwed up too. I think its my computer. Mac older..... This sucks I dont know if ill ever gmrs again.

Im trying to understand how your computer is affecting your radio. I have an original working 1984 Macintosh in my garage, and it has never screwed with my radios.

I would like to list a new repeater.....I went to "request" and it would not let me fill any thing in!!

Request is asking for permission on a repeater.  Go to just repeaters in the CP, then the Owned tab, then you add it.

This is your OWN repeater your listing right?

Never mind, I think I found the answer.  The Chirp Next version that was issued yesterday has a beta for the GM-5RH listed under Baofeng.  It seemed to connect and I was able to save the factory settings.  Fingers crossed.

Is there any way one could import settings from another radio, e.g. my GM-15 Pro into the GM-5RH?  Would be convenient.

(<This guy is obviously new at this.)

You can copy memories like your channels, but the radio specific settings will not, as they are like radio specific firmware.

    True:  " UV-5G Plus (use Baofeng GM-5RH)"

However, when searching for Baofeng GM-5RH I get this: "UV-5RH Pro Max (use Baofeng 5RM)" (Emphasis added).

There appears to be nothing for the non-Pro Max version. I just opened a box of two new ones and don't want to brick them.  Anyone know which one to use?

    TIA!

Try to do a download with the 5RH selection.  Chances are if it does it clean/no errors, it will be fine to upload with that setting.

And save / lock that file!  Its like your backup of the factory settings.

It has always been Pofung and always marketed as "Baofeng" - The screenshot shows whats different now, in that they are now saying "formerly Baofeng" and the radios now say "Pofung".

Ahh, ok and it makes sense.  One of those things like the old Jap Datsuns sold in the US were really Nissan and they eventually went back to their real nomenclature.

If there’s truly a password. As I said, the manual doesn’t mention one. Perhaps he simply locked the keyboard. Or maybe the manual is poor.

My Assault Radio - Beofeng AR-5RM - has that feature but like was said, why?  And the manual only tells you how to turn it on or off...  Im afraid to test it, as if there happens to be a default password, the manual says nothing about, oops! 😭

    EDIT

I really want to test it though, have it locked and I am curious if you can still pull a download/upload from CHIRP.

The manual doesn’t mention a password. Are you sure you entered a password?

Resetting the radio is menu 40.

Would you not have to get past the password before you could choose menu 40?

Figured it out!  Select All, Copy, Paste after all the pre-programmed channels!!

    Then the fun part.

Over time, some of the tones will get changed for various reasons, some repeaters will die, some new ones will crop up.

    SIGH

Then you have to edit them and upload...

Can I double dip?  I just signed up for Radio Reference and got all the frequencies for around me loaded.  If I upload these to the radio, will they wipe out all my pre-programmed GMRS that came with the radio?

I do not own a GMRS specific radio, but I am pretty sure from what I know and what has been said and is the case, the basic simplex GMRS channels 1 - 14 and the 8 repeater freqs are hard coded somewhere in its programming.

So, you have saved and locked a downloaded file of your radio to restore yet? Do it, then lock that file, tinker with it and see, save it as a different working file.  All else goes pear shaped, you can restore at least.

  12. And i just noticed in my example file pulling up my code plug for my mobile radio, for memory 166, I misspelled Knob as Lnob.  Great, I need to buy a laptop.  Its a pain to pull my mobile out and bring it in to reprogram from my desktop...

I could do it by hand, but im too old and need readers glasses, F that 😂

  13. It seems more confusing than it is.... you will get it, we all had to get it..

Location 166 is what it should look like.  Hit the options for tone mode, set to cross, it asks for the Mode, use the ->tone, then when you select that it needs the tone.  Go left to right with the settings.
