  1. Really? I actually find that odd. If I heard someone calling out my callsign I would likely answer them. Why not? Get to know your neighbors and maybe make a new friend. If they asked to stop by the house, that would be another thing. But to just talk on the radio would be fine.
  2. Digital will need it's own bandwidth and frequencies. We can't have all that crappy digital noise on the analog channels. Digital changed TV for the better. But it was a hard battle and the switch over was brutal.
  3. Well I don't want a reprimand on my membership....
  4. You don't trust Mwaaa?
  5. A GMRS radio is restricted to GMRS frequencies by design. You can't get around it. You can very likely listen to any frequency that the radio will allow you to input. But as for transmitting you are only allowed to put GMRS specific channels. On an open radio you can transmit willy nilly but it's likely not legal if you aren't licensed to do so. My Tidradio has an open mode and you can input whatever you want and transmit if it's in the range of the radio.
  6. Freddy's the guy on one of my semi local repeaters that likes to hear himself talk. If no one answers him he'll just continue on. It comical at times.
  7. You know Freddy?
  8. So in the relay delay it's OFF, 1-9. When I turn it off the repeater doesn't respond at all. And when I set it to 1 through 9 there isn't much of a difference. Does anyone know the timing of the different levels, because it's certainly not seconds.
  9. Temp mounting And I got my call sign on the radio
  10. Never mind... I guess I had the screen scrolled down and couldn't see the options at the top. I found it. I haven't wrote it to the radio yet though.
  11. Anybody been able to do this with the XS20G Plus?
  12. Wife is a couple states away with the grand children. She won't know for a while.
  13. This is the what the program looks like
  14. Plus it looks like I'll have some extra time. I am painting cabinets and I'll run out of paint before my supplier will be able to mix up a new batch for me. So after this round I am free to roam about the airplane.
  15. Not exactly. Right now I'm still thinking temporary. Might take a longer board and put another shorter on an angle to mount the radio on and slip the long board under the armrest between the seats. Don't really want to drill any holes into the truck yet. It's only 17 years old ya know. Glad I got the programming cable. I think it'll be a lot easier to put the info into the machine, especially naming repeater channels. The program works in the computer. I haven't interfaced with the radio yet. I think I have to put the driver for the cord into my computer before I plug anything in. I've already got the programming software setup and ready to write to the radio as soon as I know it works. I know, read first to make sure it's working right.
  16. I don't know what happened. It snuck out of it's box and it's hiding in my truck
  17. If I have to suffer... you have to suffer....
  18. It's here.... Now all I have to do is wait until after work
  19. I didn't think about GMRS in the 60s. I was pushed into this life in '62
  20. Ya, I know that. Wasn't sure if it would be advantageous to have it. And if I did need/want it I didn't want to have to wait for it to arrive after I already had the radio. Can't hurt to have it.
  21. So did you ever return his money?

    GRMS Needed?

Not a problem at all. Honesty is the best policy as long as you don't really go overboard.
  23. I got the programming cable because I wasn't sure how easy or hard it would be to program.
  24. Glad to hear good things about it. Only so much research you can do online and by youtube. Sounds like I should be pleased with my purchase.
