Receiving unable to transmit
WSDV406 replied to WRUC846's topic in South Central Tennessee GMRS's Club Forum Page
I'd do a quick program file and see if it'll connect, read, and write just using the uv-5g pro selection (if you haven't already tried that). -

Also @WRUC846 -- if you're in Adams, TN I'd be trying to reach Gallatin 650. https://mygmrs.com/repeater/8271 I monitor that one all the time so I can help ya test on it. -

Receiving unable to transmit
WSDV406 replied to WRUC846's topic in South Central Tennessee GMRS's Club Forum Page
Excellent. I can't hit that repeater from where I am, but I know we have several people that use it. @WSIY431 and @TheMeatTrapper I think use it here from our group. But let us know here if you can make contact with them or anyone else. -
Apologies for neglecting to update this post after the last two weeks' nets. Allow me to cover both here in one post. On 11/26/25, we had our first annual "Turkey Net" (so named by @WSFA364). That evenings get-to-know-ya question was from the very same station as well. "What is your favorite game / activity to do at Thanksgiving get-togethers?" Thanks to @WSKH224, @WSAY284, @WSFA364 (though he almost missed the net of which he inspired ), @lux4227 (WRZN377), @WSDV406 (me), @SteveGibbs (WSBN443), and @EchoCQ73 (WSJU904) for checking in on a busy Thanksgiving Eve. The answers ranged from skeet shooting to Jujitsu competition, to board games, watching football, and playing actual football. On 12/03/25, the question was "Regarding Christmas decorations, are you more of a Scrooge or a Clark Griswald or somewhere in between?". Thanks to @WSKH224, @WSAY284, @WSFA364, @lux4227 (WRZN377), @WSDV406 (me), @SteveGibbs (WSBN443), @WSGE773, and @EchoCQ73 (WSJU904) for taking part in this week's net. Answers obviously ranged from Griswald to Grinch, but the elaborations were immaculate. You don't have to key up to a part of the net. Just monitor, if you wish. Every single week I'm surprised by at least one stations' answer -- and I LOVE it. Encourage your friends to join us and key up. They don't have a call sign yet? ok. That's cool. Let them use yours. GMRS license extends to all "family". Thanks again to everyone that takes time out of their busy week to join these weekly nets. We do this not only to have some fun and get to know each other a bit, but also to know who is available to count on during times of emergency. Join us at 462.600 each Wednesday at 8pm. Whether you key up or just tune-in, we'd love to have ya. *Point your browser to (or share with a friend) SCTNGMRS.com or SouthCentralTNGMRS.com for easy access to the club page.....and make sure to click "follow" so you can stay up to date with new posts in our club forum.*

well again -- except for one dud -- i've had great luck with the tidradio brand. Other than that, you could check out baeofeng, radtel, retevis, or so many other brands. If you want SPECIFIC radio recommendations, then please let us know what kind of criteria you're looking for, and we'll be able to advise you from a more informed perspective. -

Welcome @M3DOC! Nice to chat with ya yesterday evening and welcome to the larger GMRS fam and our little branch of it, specifically. And yes, @WRXD746, our only organized net happens on the Brentwood 462.600 repeater, CTCSS 123.0 in and out, every Wednesday at 8pm. That repeater has a massive footprint. That said, if you -- or anyone, for that matter -- is in an area that is NOT covered by that repeater, by all means speak up. Let us know. If we need to have multiple nets on different repeaters across the area, we're totally glad to do so. But we can't organize such if we don't know there's a want/need for it. So if you can't reach Brentwood 600, but you want to take part in regular club nets, speak up! Bonus, that will allow us to begin to expand our emergency preparedness across a larger area as well. -

i've had great luck with all but one dud from Tid Radio, personally. But the choice is yours, of course. What radio and/or brand ya looking at instead? -

Hey there @WRUC846. Yeah I have to say ...... i own several tid radios. A couple of h3's. An h3 plus. A few h8's. I HAVE had a dud radio that did the exact thing you described. It would receive but no matter what i did, it would NOT transmit. Maybe you could order a new one on amazon and then return that "new one" because it didn't work. wink wink. -
Hey there 746. Absolutely. If you key up any of the local and ask for a radio check, you're very likely to get a response. Was there a certain time and/or certain repeater(s) you'd like to setup a coms check on while you're in town?

Thanks to everyone who took time out of their busy week to take part in the weekly Get To Know Ya Check-In Net! They were @WSKH224, @WSAY284, @WSFA364, @lux4227 (WRZN377), @WSDV406 (Me), @WSIY431, @SteveGibbs (WSBM443), @WSIT473, @WSGE773, & @WSJU904. Tonight's question was: ”What are your three favorite dishes to eat on Thanksgiving?" Answers ranged from alllllll different kinds of turkey (deep fried, cajun, smoked, etc), mac and cheese, spiral cut ham, loaded mashed potatoes and canned cranberry sauce to buffalo chicken cheese dip, pizza, and Russian beet soup. Thanks again to everyone that takes time out of their busy week to join these weekly nets. We do this not only to have some fun and get to know each other a bit, but also to know who is available to count on during times of emergency. Join us at 462.600 each Wednesday at 8pm. Who is interested in a net on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving? I know many folks will travel and many others will host relatives and friends. I think it could be a cool time to relax with loved ones and introduce them to this radio hobby we all enjoy, but that's me. I'm down to roll net control if yall are down to have a net on next Wednesday (11/26). The weekly net for this week (11/19) is of course for sure on as scheduled. Speaking of nets -- let's hear some ideas for our weekly get-to-know-ya question! (otherwise yall are stuck with whatever comes out of my twisted mind ) Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve are both on Wednesday this year, so we'll talk about those here in a few weeks. Couple of cool ideas percolating regarding those dates -- stay tuned.

Thanks to everyone who took time out of their busy week to take part in the weekly Get To Know Ya Check-In Net! They were WSKH224, @TheMeatTrapper (WRMN250), @WSAY284, @WSFA364, @lux4227 (WRZN377), @WSDV406 (Me), @WSIY431, @WSGE773, & @WSJU904. Tonight's question was inspired by the solar storm that we're currently experiencing and was: ”What is your favorite celestial or astronomical event to view, if any – or do you keep your eyes focused on things more terrestrial?" Tonight's answers included: "the Northern lights, meteor showers, watching satellites and the ISS, monitoring solar activity and its affect on radio transmissions", and many more. If you capture any pics of the northern lights, please share them to @TheMeatTrapper's thread that he started last night with his beautiful photo here: Thanks again to everyone that takes time out of their busy week to join these weekly nets. We do this not only to have some fun and get to know each other a bit, but also to know who is available to count on during times of emergency. *Point your browser to (or share with a friend) SCTNGMRS.com or SouthCentralTNGMRS.com for easy access to the club page.....and make sure to click "follow" so you can stay up to date with new posts in our club forum.*

Ongoing Solar Storm

What a beautiful picture @TheMeatTrapper! Thank you so much for the information and the image! If anyone else captures any pics of the the geomagnetic storm, please post them here in this thread. -
Thanks to everyone who took time out of their busy week to take part in the weekly Get To Know Ya Check-In Net! They were WSKH224, @TheMeatTrapper (WRMN250), @LakeFreak (WSGH297), WSIF342, @lux4227 (WRZN377), @WSDV406 (Me), @WSIY431, WSAQ712, @WSGE773, @WSJU904, & @WRYL951. This week's question came to me as I scoffed at seeing Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas decor in box stores all at the same time over the last couple of week. The question was: “Do you decorate for Christmas before Thanksgiving or wait until the Turkey has had his day?” It was kind of an either/or array of answer tonight, but the tally surprised me -- as always -- you'll have to join the net (or at least listen to it) to get the full array of answers. Thanks again to everyone that takes time out of their busy week to join these weekly nets. We do this not only to have some fun and get to know each other a bit, but also to know who is available to count on during times of emergency. *Point your browser to (or share with a friend) SCTNGMRS.com or SouthCentralTNGMRS.com for easy access to the club page.....and make sure to click "follow" so you can stay up to date with new posts in our club forum.*

Thanks to WSKH224, @WSAY284, WSCK339, @WSBP378, @WSDV406 (Me), @WSIY431, @SteveGibbs (WSBM443), @WSGE773, & @WSJU904 for taking time out of their busy week to check in on this rainy Halloween check-in. This week's question was a two-parter: What is your favorite scary/horror/Halloween-themed movie and/or do you participate in handing out candy or do you turn the lights off and hibernate? Some of the answers tonight were: The Exorcist, Hocus Pocus, Night of the Living Dead, but -- as always -- you'll have to join the net (or at least listen to it) to get the full array of answers. Thanks again to everyone that takes time out of their busy week to join these weekly nets. Hey there @WSKE392! Welcome to the GMRS fam and to our club. Glad you're enjoying it so far! Thanks for stopping by and participating in the net on Brentwood 600 last night! Looking forward to chatting more soon. -
Thanks to WSKH224, @WSAY284, WSCK339, @WSFA364, WRZN377, @WSKE392, @WSDV406 (Me), @SteveGibbs (WSBM443), WRUP567, @WSGE773, @WSJU904, and @Wrob977 for taking time out of yall's busy week too take part in tonight's check-in net. This week's question was "Without incriminating yourself, what's your favorite occasional guilty pleasure?" We had a great mix of OG's and newcomers tonight. We were sad to not hear some regulars (always make sure to check on your friends you haven't heard from in a while, fyi). If they turn out to be ok, then make sure they know that they'll be tar and feathered if they miss more than two nets in a row. ;-). Some of the answers to tonight's question were: Ice cream for breakfast, sweet tea with a splash of Absolute vodka, a large piece of cheescake, spending $1000's on radio gear, small time sports betting (just to keep otherwise un-interesting games, interesting), and SOOO many more. If you want the full story, you'll have to monitor (or even better, hit that PTT button and check-in) on Wednesdays at 8pm. Thanks to everyone that takes time out of their busy week to join these weekly nets.

Hey there @WSKG222. Apologies that I missed your post. Welcome to our little corner of the GMRS world! I entered the GMRS world kind of the same way. I got sold a set of Baeofeng UV5R's at a Gun Show by a booth that made everything sound SOOOOO simple. Wrong. Straight off a cliff indeed. Or into a dead end. Or "something like that" indeed. I couldn't believe how much there actually was to learn before being able to make these radios actually usable. We're here to help and looking forward to chatting with ya. Sounds like a quick chat on the phone might be a bit more help for you, rather than trying to has things out via a forum. I'm glad to do so if you're interested. Just let me know. -
Thanks to @TheMeatTrapper (WRM250), @WSFA364, @WSBP378, @WSDV406 (Me), @SteveGibbs (WSBM443), WSFK524, and @WSJU904 for taking time out of yall's busy week too take part in tonight's check-in net. It was an interesting one. This week's question was "What was your favorite Halloween costume?" We had LOTS of responses of dracula/vampire representations. A couple of Uncle Sam answers. Army men. And even a Wednesday Adams. If you want the full story, you'll have to monitor (or even better, hit that PTT button and check-in) at 8pm on Wednesdays at 8pm. *Point your browser to (or share with a friend) SCTNGMRS.com or SouthCentralTNGMRS.com for easy access to the club page.....and make sure to click "follow" so you can stay up to date with new posts in our club forum.*

Apologies for my tardiness in getting the last couple of weeks' net summaries posted in a timely manner. Allow me to catch up on the last two weeks here on this one post..... On 10/1, @TheMeatTrapper (WRMN250), @lux4227 (WRZN377), @WSDV406 (Me), @SteveGibbs (WSDV443), WRXS569, & @WSGE773 took time out of their busy week to check-in. This week's question was "What Got you into radio in general, and GMRS radio specifically?" Answers ranged from SHTF/prepping to CB radio to DX'ing and more. On 10/8, @WSBP204, @lux4227 (WRZN377), @WSDV406 (Me), @SteveGibbs (WSDV443), WRUP567, WRXS569, & @WSGE773 graciously joined the net to connect with each other. That week's question was "Whether you're watching sports or playing radio, what is your go-to snack?" Answers were tastiness as simple as "mountain dew" to "bacon + pretzel thins + boursin cheese". Thanks to EVERYONE who has the courage and takes the time to key up and join the net. All yall that listen and don't key up, we love ya. We'd love to talk to ya. Hit that PTT button. We'll all be better for it. See yall tomorrow night at 8pm sharp.

Welcome Dustin! My name is Jeffrey. I'm in Hermitage. I monitor Brentwood 600 and Gallatin 650 whenever my radio is on. I know everyone here is interested in helping as much as we can. What kind of help do you need in programming your HT baofeng b15 pro? -
Thanks so much to @lux4227 (WRZN377), @WSDV406 (me), @WSIY431, & @WSGE773 for taking time out of their busy schedule to join the net this week! This week's question was: "If you were stuck on a desert island, what’s the one item you’d want to have with you (and it cannot be a radio)?" The answers this week were - Shiny Spear, Kukri or Bolo, and a whiskey still to make sure you can desalinate sea water and also make your own banana and/or coconut rum. We usually have great conversation after the net has closed, so always feel free to hang around and chat. If you're in range of the Brentwood 600 repeater, listen in to our weekly nets on Wednesday at 8pm. If you want to key up, feel free to do so. It's just a quick press of that little PTT button. We won't bite. Thanks to everyone that takes time out of their busy week to spend a few minutes connecting and getting to know each other a little better. *Point your browser to (or share with a friend) SCTNGMRS.com or SouthCentralTNGMRS.com for easy access to the club page.....and make sure to click "follow" so you can stay up to date with new posts in our club forum.*
