  1. It’s the 2024 version. what do I need to do?
  2. No it’s a uv-5g plus. Which is supposed to be chirp compatible. But isn’t on the list. But people have told me that the uv5rh is basically the same.
  3. And what is a radio image?
  4. This is what I get every time I try to hook up on chirp. What do I do?
  5. I thought I could use it for a multifunctional tool.. I could possibly hear about wrecks or construction or other issues so I could reroute. Hopefully come across good folks and have some good conversations. Biggest concern right now is routing the antenna wire in a functional area where I don’t have to make any modifications…
  6. They’re fun to play with! I can agree though.. public radio is a lot like a public toilet lol. You’re going to be subjected to some bad

    UV-5R vs UV-5G

It’s a good radio. I like it. Personally I find it well worth what I paid for it. I may grow out of it as I get more knowledgeable in radio but as a complete and utter beginner, it’s a good radio.

    UV-5R vs UV-5G

If I can make a recommendation, the UV-5G Plus is a pretty awesome radio. Their range is impressive! I like the dual mode and the sound is impressively clear.
  9. If this is the case, is it better to have your own repeater(s) so you don’t have to bother with someone else’s?
  10. Yes, that’s one. There’s a few more I came across from other authors. I guess one guy came up with an idea that everyone else took and ran with as well. But in kind of different directions.
  11. There’s quite a few on the “Zon”. Most have good reviews. Written by former military folks who know these radios inside and out. People say they’re great for beginners and even some seasoned operators learn from them. Just curious what y’all’s thoughts/experiences/takeaways are?
  12. I’m sure some days are better than others… atmospheric conditions and such. And I guess if you’re out of range then you’re out of range.
  13. I’m still learning about ranges. It’d seem to me the higher the elevation the more you’d pick up? Kind of the idea of why towers are put on high elevations and taller antennas get better reception?
  14. I can see that. Makes sense. I occasionally see trucks with the long antenna. My cb brothers lol.
  15. I got the Radioddity CB-27 Pro. I hear cb is dead but it looked fun to play with and it says it’s a Pro!
  16. I’m just splurging on holidays… Christmas Day, Veterans Day, Thursday, Friday etc…
  17. No not lice nor crabs or the rona… my radio addiction is twitching. I got giddy today and ordered a cb radio just to tinker with. I fear more will follow.
  18. I looked at those Tids and was pretty interested. But I read some reviews that (and forgive me I can’t remember everything exactly) but switching from ham to GMRS and vice versa erased everything formerly programmed in the radios? Unless they didn’t know what they were doing… but it was more than one review and it didn’t sit well with me.
  19. Well I figured out how to find and request repeaters lol. I’ve asked for permission and I’m waiting on my yea or nay. So my next step is to learn how to connect to them if/when I get approval. I really appreciate the help!
  20. I’m the proud owner of a nice set of Baofeng UV-5G plus radios. I put the included tall antennas on them and I am impressed! I don’t live in a mountainous area but wooded and hilly. And these really reach out there! I’m trying to learn them and it’s not coming easily. I can hear others, conversations and radio checks, but when I do a radio check, I get no response. So I’m reading the user manual which might as well be written in another language for me. I’ve reached out to some local ham clubs to see if they can help out on the GMRS side. Until then, I like tinkering with them!
  21. This is good to know. I’ve also looked at these but couldn’t help but feel like they were longer range walkie talkies.
  22. I appreciate this. While yea, price is a factor and no price can be too low, the more important factor is quality. I’d rather ask a lot of annoying questions and make a good purchase once than end up on a goose chase. I’m looking at Wouxuns. They seem to entry level to the better quality radios. And your recommendation is about the third so far. Their impression is really noteworthy.
  23. Well yeah…..
  24. I’ve been looking at the Retevis RB17P GMRS Handheld Radio. Seems like a good radio. From what I understand, the antenna isn’t removable. Not a deal breaker but makes me wonder if a permanent antenna could be troublesome if maybe I need something with more reach on it?
  25. I was a little torn between the uv-5, the pro and plus. I believe I’ve decided on the plus. Good reviews and seems to fit, chirp support, range seems good, I tend to like the dual station thing. The only thing I dislike yet it seems to be more radios aren’t than are are water proof.
