  1. Also too, is the programming cable the same as the Yaesu?
  2. I have a Yaesu and so far I have neither needed nor wanted another ham radio. So, if the Alinco is about the same build and quality I’m sold. I really appreciate the review. There’s not much about it out there. I’d love to read some longevity reviews about it.
  3. Ok.. the Alinco. Reminds of a ton of my Yaesu. What’s your experience with it?
  4. Hope y’all are well fed and turkey sleep induced lol. Happy Thanksgiving!
  5. Beofengs.. people either love them or hate them. I’m shy of them now. Or I guess since I got the Yaesu I now know the characteristics of an expensive radio lol. I’ll take a look into Wouxun. I appreciate the suggestion.
  6. I believe I’m going with a HT.
  7. CB is definitely more of a hit your way than mine. I do get an occasional conversation.. GMRS has been the undisputed champion out here. Beating ham and CB.
  8. I guess I’ve hit a growth spurt and I’ve outgrown my Beofengs. I’m going to sell them. I’m not happy with them anymore. So, with that being said, I’m between the Tidradio H3’s for strictly GMRS use and the Retevis Ailunce HA1G I’m just reading and taking notes about the both.. Which one would you choose and why?
  9. Interesting.. I know the H3’s can be both ham and GMRS. I’ve been looking at them recently myself but for strictly GMRS use.
  10. I wasn’t saying that. I was saying don’t bring unwanted attention.
  11. I’ll throw in my .0002 cents. Maybe, perhaps, if people don’t rouse “attention” then there’ll be nothing to worry about.
  12. Found this on Amazon. I’m finding a smidgeon of truth in it…
  13. Awesome! I’m still learning and trying make sense of it all.. lol. Practical applications for this stuff is kind of confusing to me other than just cool stuff to dabble in. We had a little crash course on Winlink last night. Kind of fascinating what you can do with this stuff!
  14. Ok.. explain Allstar please. Looks like it’s for repeaters and doesn’t function the same as EchoLink.
  15. I see repeaters all over the world. It’s crazy.. Thanks for the response!
  16. Some of you seasoned hams will probably smirk and giggle at this but I sat in a ham club meeting tonight and learned about EchoLink. This is the coolest thing since sliced cheese.. of course I came home and downloaded it on my phone, showed my lovely wife who said “Well we didn’t need to buy you a ham radio..” Anyhoo.. I’m tinkering and learning this. One thing I forgot to ask at the club was if it might overstep my technician privileges?
  17. I blew my telescope budget for a Yaesu VX-6R. I’m not too terribly bummed though. I’ll say it was postponed..
  18. Being inexperienced, I went the budget route with GMRS. And while the Beofengs aren’t bad.. I figured for ham I should go for higher quality. So, I’ve got a Yaesu VX-6R. Every review and everything I’ve read about these radios speak well of them. I’m sure some of y’all if not most all of yall already know this.
  19. That looks awesome!
  20. Jack Horkheimer!! Man I haven’t heard that name in years!… yes! He was pretty instrumental in getting me into astronomy. I loved that show.
  21. I’ve been looking at a dobsonian mount tabletop Celestron. Just curious how easy they are to maneuver?
  22. That’s awesome!
  23. That’s awesomeness!!
  24. I’m an overachiever… most all my hobbies are expensive. Or.. they can be lol. I had a Celestron. Good… but I want to see deep space. Nebulae, star clusters, other planets. Etc.
  25. I’m certainly interested in doing something like that. One, it helps people and two, it makes me have to learn and be good(ish) at it.
