A couple of hundred miles away, you can usually keep the location of your GMRS license private. For example, instead of providing your actual address or workplace, you can use a post office box. Did you see the exact location, or was it just the post office box code? is it just on mygmrs.com/map or on the repeater book? What makes you think this repeater is linked illegally? Some of those repeaters, if they are positioned very high—like at 1,000 feet—can actually cover that kind of distance. Additionally, if your repeater is on a very tall mountain, it can typically reach far distances as well.

I would say that two watts is probably sufficient if you are using a good repeater that is mounted on a tower. However, if the repeater is on a roof or in a location that isn’t on a tower, two watts may not be ideal unless you are within 0.5 miles of that repeater.

It kind of depends on your needs. I would say that a 10-watt radio will be sufficient for most situations, but if you're looking to cover greater distances, a 50-watt radio would be the best option. You don't necessarily need to spend a lot on a 50-watt radio; you can get a Baofeng GMRS version for around $20. It works well indoors or in a car, but using an outside antenna will improve its performance significantly.

Every repeater owner has different thoughts about it. My repeater doesn't allow a Roger beep, but it allows MDC-1200 because it's a Motorola.

The answer is yes, the radios are yours, not someone else's. However, the repeater owner doesn't want you to use them. Not all FRS radios have Roger beeps; some do not. Therefore, I advise you not to use Roger beeps on the repeater. You can communicate with your family using Roger beeps, but please refrain from using them on the repeater. to those who are new to this MDC is NOT BEEP is an ID.
