If you are interested in scan groups and hyper-fast channel scanning and have TIDRADIO TD-H3 HTs I strongly suggest upgrading your firmware to nicFW. I have found it to be extremely stable and consistent for experimental firmware. If you don't like it you can always flash back to factory firmware. I have it hooked to my base station antenna and now pick up so much more activity with the scanning capabilities. With scan groups, I can instantly monitor the 8 or so local repeaters and simplex channels/codes that I normally listen for. That's what I am putting it on. Should work great on the TD-H3 but I'll let you know if it sits flush and doesn't hit the plastic surround on the port. I wanted the antenna to sit flush to the adapter and Signal Stuff makes a perfect looking BNC adapter that I just found.

I converted my HTs to a BNC-F connector to make it easy to swap out from car, home, and roll-up J Pole. I'll eventually buy short whip antennas with native BNC-M plug but I want to continue using my Nagoya 771 whip antennas that are SMA-F (HTs are SMA-M). I was just given what I believe to be a Tram 1481 3-section 2m/70cm antenna and want to use it for GMRS base station. I don't have a spectrum analyzer but plan to test it on on a Surecom SWR meter at a range of frequencies once I can set it up in a temporary position. I can't find any instructions on how to trim the antenna sections to get it tuned to 462-467 range. Can that be done or do I just take what I can get?

At first I thought I was connecting to another repeater with the same freq/tone but after connecting with people in Blanco and Seguin I realized that Alamo NB is just a solid setup. I also hear the station ID for Leander (600) loud and clear at 23.7 miles, but I can't get a signal back with my HT to transmit out. I am up on a hill with clear views north and east. Don't have a base station or antenna setup yet.

From here in Dripping Springs, the Flintrock Hill (625) and Alamo New Braunfels (725) work great. I have talked to folks in Seguin and Blanco through Alamo NB. I am 26.2 miles away from that repeater which is great for a 5W HT.
