  1. I have a Midland MTX575 with a couple antennas for mobile use. I also have a Retevis RA87 (40 watt) that I purchased direct from Retevis as a portable base (price included the radio, power supply and metal box with handle. This gives me the flexibility that I need to have a radio at home as well as one I can take on camping trips with family. You might need to find what works best for you after some experimenting. I will say that I am running Ailunce HA1g handhelds and I would highly recommend them with the extra range antenna, great range with our repeaters in the area and very easy to program and use.
  2. Double post.
  3. This is what I am setting up as I want a base in the house, but also when out camping, How do you use the mag mount antenna at home? So you just put up by a window inside? Or do mount it outside and run the cable through the wall? I am leaning towards mounting the antenna near a window in the house so it will be easy to remove when I want a portable base. I am also close enough to a good repeater that I can communicate with a handheld, so I am not overly concerned with max range.
  4. I have a Midland MTX575 that I need to install in my truck, I live in Minnesota and the winters are brutal, I was going to mount the radio in the center console, but starting to wonder of I should do an under the seat mount instead as the console stays very cold.
