  1. That is an excellent suggestion and one that I will certainly pay attention to. I thought that I had uploaded from the radio (which I did) but made changes. I did not save as a new image and overwrote the default. That's a hard lesson learned but a very valuable one. I'm so glad to be on this site with people whom are not afraid to share knowledge and guidance.
  2. Well some good news folks! I was able to make contact on the repeater designated as Alamo NW 462.625 with an operator about 35 miles from my location. So I know the radio works. It was very clear without any noise. The other two repeaters - no contact. I'll keep trying on those frequencies. I appreciate your insight and help on this matter Jim. Thank You!
  3. I know the feeling. Just started myself and nothing........ But welcome!
  4. Okay let's try this programming:
  5. I guess I wiped out all that stuff in chirp. It was there in the beginning. This is on me. I flashed the radio and inputted the channels back but did not put the offsets back into the program. Thank You Jim! I get confused easily.....
  6. Thank You Steve! I will definitely give that a try. That is probably what is happening because I can hear their transmissions clearly, but I can't get a response from a radio check.
  7. Okay everyone, I'm dense and I can't figure this out. I'm asking for assistance to access a certain repeater. Here's the particulars: 1. Using a Baofeng UV-5r Gmrs radio. One of my HAM friends told me that I cannot use this radio for GMRS. I think that I can. 2. I'm using CHIRP software and have attached screen shot of my program 3. Trying to link to repeater LV650 on mygmrs.com. I receiver permission from owner to use this repeater. I can't figure out why I can't reach this repeater. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It's frustrating when you know hardly nothing about how this works!
  8. What a wealth of information this has become for me in understanding how things work and what is authorized in accordance § 95.1763 GMRS channels. Sometimes you have to slow down to speed up, if that makes any sense to you. Thank you, all of you for this help!
  9. Thanks for the explanation! I wasn't sure if you could just use in between frequencies. Now I understand that it could disrupt others services that share the frequencies. Don't want to do that on any frequency! You know, I did read § 95.1763 GMRS channels and it just went right over my head since the radio already had them programmed in there. I'll admit, I was in a hurry and not paying attention. But again, I appreciate the responses!
  10. I'm new to understanding radio frequencies, specifically programming certain frequencies into the radio. I understand UHF and VHF and the frequency ranges that encompasses each. However, where I get confused is this specifically: GMRS 1 - 462.562MHz GMRS 2 - 462.587MHz In between those two frequencies, is there room to program a frequency such as 462.750? I don't understand the theory behind why there is a large gap between frequencies. Could someone elaborate on this so I'll understand? I just got my license and don't want to make foolish mistakes and lose it! Many Thanks in advance!
  11. Hello Marc! I just got my GMRS license and really didn't know too much. Your video has helped me tremendously in understanding concept. I'm still not totally understanding about repeaters but in time and research, I feel that I will be able to communicate using a repeater. I'm still confused on tones, but again, time and research will provide answers. Thank You for the information!
