Although I have an expensive smartphone that can (supposedly) do lots of amazing things, there is zero cell reception out this way. Once you get away from the WiFi signal. Texts or calls, forget it…It’s pretty rural, easy as pie to get off road and out in to areas where you’d unlikely see anyone else for considerable amounts of time. Lots of wilderness. So, GMRS covers the several square miles of turf, around home, going in all directions, “down the road”, or just out in the neighborhood, so to speak.

In the previous discussion that led to this thread, MikeLAX said: ”I had been expecting that maybe CHIRP would provide an upgrade, since this rig is so inexpensive, and selling like hotcakes; but I am told that someone needs to send them a unit to work on.” is this true? Does anyone know the answer to this? Because here we all are 2-3 years later, and there is still no profile in CHIRP for this radio. Crazy! If all that they need is a unit to work on, maybe a handful of us could pass a hat around and get one of these radios sent in so that this is finally resolved and becomes a radio that CHIRP can program. I’d put in $20-25 if anyone else wants to help get it done. I haven’t a clue where we’d ship the radio to, but I’m guessing finding out wouldn’t be difficult.
