I have 2 AR-5rm's and do not have that issue with either one. So that makes me think it's a defective unit. On a side note, and I'm not sure if it's necessary, but I always make sure my radio is off before I attach or detach my external. It's a leftover habit from running sound equipment. It's quite easy to damage amps, speakers, and mics by connecting while under power. Maybe the same goes for radio.

I see that they also have the option to buy just the mount and coax for $60.

Yes, those are the ones. I was thinking about clearing my garage door as well. Plus, they look like they'd draw less attention from those a-holes that like to mess with people's antennas.

The roof is steel I believe. I can double check with a magnet. But I was kinda thinking of mounting to the roof rack. I'm not sure what a "ground plane" is, but I'm guessing that's a factor.

Where is the best location to mount a vehicle antenna for optimum performance? It probably depends on the type of antenna. The type of vehicle. I'm not sure so that's why I'm asking. My circumstances are on a 2024 Bronco Sport and I was looking at this antenna.
