  1. BTWR did me right. They got a shipment of mislabeled 1000G and I was a lucky recipient of a KG-UV980P labeled as the 1000g. Identical radios but I figure the 1000G is just firmware locked to GMRS. I called BTWR and they they were very quick to ship the correct radio and a return label. I've made a couple purchased with them namely 805G's and the 1000G plus power supply for base station, always fast shipping (when stuff is in stock), good tracking, everything arrives well packaged, and my one issue was met with a real human answering the phone and having real answers to my questions that result in quick corrective actions! Yes, will keep buying from BTWR.com! Side note: it might have been a genius sales plot because I got to play around with the 980P for a week waiting on return label and the 1000G, now I want my Ham ticket and a KG-UV980P
  2. We have a 30' Travel trailer and a Pontoon Boat. I pull the camper, wife pulls the boat. We both have Bluetooth connected phones but sometimes you need a quick "changing lanes" or "debris on road" conversation and phone take too long to connect. While we have cell service at our usual campgrounds, I've got the wife using the radio vs the phone and it seems to work well. Never liked the phone because sometimes there can be a 2-3 second delay in audio. When traveling, I usually scan the GMRS channels listening for anyone else traveling. Maybe it will catch on like CB did back in the day, maybe not.
  3. Hi Vince, Yes, I'm very happy with those 805G. So much so I went a bought the KG-1000G the 50w big brother and set it up with a dual band whip as a base at the house for now. I'm getting out good to the La Vernia 550 repeater that's about 16 miles from me. The HTs I think can break squelch but not really get audio that far. The repeater owner is moving the antenna up a bit further as soon as weather permits (maybe today he said) and I will try those HTs around town and see how they do. I probably need to set up a whip on the truck and connect the HT. Maybe as soon as a decide on a proper base antenna I can move my whip mount from the home office to the truck. Frank WRKG475
  4. Just got my License not long ago and picked up a pair of 805G for the wife and I to use when camping. I pull the camper and she pulls the boat and cellphone reception can be spotty or she likes to be on the Bluetooth chatting with her mom on some of the longer trips. The radio will give me a quicker way to communicate lane changes and short messages without waiting for a phone to dial and connect. I've been taking one of the radios with me on a couple 200+ mile trips up to the in-laws and monitor the so called "travel" channel 462.675 MHz aka channel 20 using PL141.3 as well as scanning with no PL. Haven't heard anyone yet but maybe as the off roaders move away from CBs the GMRS radio traffic will pick up.
  5. Not radio related, One of my favorites when discussing the interpretation of law and/or government regulations is IANL I Ain’t No Lawyer I use this to let readers know that what I have written is not legal advise from a bonafide internet lawyer or even someone who plays a lawyer on TV.
  6. Can anyone with a Base station setup tell me about your grounding and lighting protection? Should I put a lighting arrestor at the base of the antenna then connect the cable? Put lightning arrestor between two runs of cable? I am considering installing a Tram Browning BR-6140 fiberglass antenna in the roof.
  7. The ability to hide our full street address when someone looks up our call sign!!!! City and state are fine but why show them our full physical street address?
