  1. That could be. When transmitting the battery will provide the necessary power but I would expect a slight voltage drop which might cause issues for the charger.
  2. Which is why I suspect a firmware issue with the charger increasing. Once the light turns green the charger should only provide the voltage necessary to maintain the battery. It shouldn’t increase the voltage that high. What does the fully charged battery voltage show when it’s out of the charger?
  3. That’s what I’m saying; I don’t think it’s the battery. I think your charger is pushing too high of voltage. Take the battery off the charger and then measure the voltage at the battery terminals.
  4. My Alinco charger with battery shows 7.93 vDC. My Baofeng shows 8.08 vDC. None of my battery chargers put out anything close to 12-15 vDC to a 7.4 volt lithium battery.
  5. It appears that your battery is in the charger while you’re measuring the voltage at the terminals that connect to the radio. I could see a firmware error (maybe even intentional but not what I would expect) in the charger increasing the charging voltage to the wrong voltage. If so, that should be a fairly obvious error that TidRadio should remedy. If that is what’s happening it could definitely let the magic smoke out of radio circuits. That would match your picture. My Alinco radio has a warning about powering on the radio while the radio and battery is on the charger. I’ll plug it in and see what voltage appears on the battery terminals while charging outside of the battery.
  6. I’ve never seen a battery that could be charged to twice its design voltage, but I admit I’m not an expert on all battery types.
  7. Well, we can hope…. It worked so well in Afghanistan, Iraq, Vietnam, etc. Syria was different because the U.S. wasn’t overtly involved. It stands a good chance of succeeding.
  8. I doubt that what’s left of their leadership will change. Nor has the U.S. shown an interest in attacking their religious leaders (and they probably shouldn’t).
  9. You need to clear your cache. No, I’m wrong. Although it isn’t jumbled for me, the home page is asking me to create a new password again. I’ll report it again.
  10. I doubt anyone in Iran would ever accept any wireless devices from any country allied with Israel.
  11. Are you entering an I (eye) or a 1? The correct format is four letters and three numbers.
  12. Welcome! I haven’t used Chirp lately, but if I were you I would binge watch Notarubicon videos on YouTube. Starting with a Baofeng isn’t a bad idea.
  13. I don’t think Rich gets notified unless something is reported. Everything on the home page works fine for me now and has for a few hours.
  14. It’s working now. I didn’t reset my password.
  15. The logic of the question was altered by the $100 limit; the logic isn’t truly scalable. I wouldn’t use pvc. It’s too flexible and it gets brittle after exposure for several years. There are chimney mounts that strap to chimneys and support a metal mast or even a fiberglass or carbon fiber mast (fiberglass is perfectly adequate and non-conductive). A decent base antenna will work well in that kind of installation.
  16. I agree, but I think it buys more than it used to. On our road home to Butte from Phoenix this past week quite a few places were advertising for help. At convenience stores the starting wage appears to be $21.00/hour. So $100 worth of stuff is now equivalent to about five hours of work. When I was a sophomore in college (1974), I worked on a farm for $15/day and they were long days. Within a couple years I got a job at an appliance store for $1.25/hour. Compared to what my wages would have purchased then, five hours will buy a much better radio, antenna, and cable than it would have then.
  17. Same thing. Did either of you report it to Rich? I did anyway. I think he’ll forgive me if I’m duplicating your reporting.
  18. Why would you have to pay the tariff on a warranty replacement? Contact customer support. If they want money tell them no.
  19. Cable can detract from the best antenna. It’s guaranteed you’ll have too much attenuation with 50’ of rg8. LMR400 won’t hurt you so much. It’s possible to get a cheap antenna with decent gain. I would get the LMR 400 and shop for a decent inexpensive antenna with gain figures you want. N connectors shouldn’t cost much more and they are more water resistant than UHF connectors, but if you do a good job of waterproofing you can get by with UHF connectors. The losses through uhf or sma vs N connectors aren’t enough to worry about.
  20. That sounds more like they were both set to narrow and the other radios were set to wide.
  21. As in much of life the easiest way to find out is to try it. So, I started to add a repeater and then cancelled after discovering what the drop down list contains. I think they’re self explanatory:
  22. Once you turn on the ability to use repeaters, the Garmin Rino turns off digital data. Last choice on the contact ^. Right after “Add to Emergency Contacts”
  23. You don’t really need an additional app with Apple. You can simply go to a person in your contacts and choose the last option “Share my location”. For the Garmin Rino if you transmit to a repeater or if you select the option not to share your location the radio won’t. The first is required in order to comply with regulations. The second is (as I pointed out earlier) simply an option.
