  1. Hi Shannon, the NA701G antenna doses not seem that much bigger/higher then the rubber ducky that came with the radio. It’s not the money, $15.99, it just seems a tad small. Will it do the job for me? bob
  2. Hello Montana, an yes your correct. I want an antenna for my handhold radio. Ok I’ll go after the 771. Has to be a female to fit the uv9g. I’m on three repeaters but can’t make the trip. There between 4to 10 miles an I think with a better antenna I should hit at least two of them. It’s worth the try an expense. Thanks for the address. bob - new jersey WRPL668
  3. Thanks Max, but my radio is a handheld u v9g an I just a better antenna to use on the handhold radio. I don’t have a base station. But thanks for your suggestion. bob
  4. Since I live in a Very quiet area I’m looking to try a better antenna for my radio. I’ve heard that the receptacle on the radio is “ tight” I’m looking for your suggestions please. Most antennas on the Radioddity site is out of stock. Any help will be appreciated. thanks, bob - WRPL668
  5. Hello WRPV821 an welcome to our site. You may want to go to utube an pinch in “Gadget Talk”. He has two videos on our uv-9g that are pretty good viewing. I found that his review of our radio was great an I took some notes. Let me know what ya think. People here have a great source of help also. The repeater section his a help. Good luck, bob WRPL668
  6. Welcome WRPV846. Just received my uv9g yesterday. It will be a learning curve for me but fun. At my age of 80 if it isn’t fun don’t do it. You will fine people here are very friendly an willing to help. So settle in an don’t be afraid to ask anything. bob - WRPL668
  7. Well the uv9g arrived late yesterday. It’s going to be a learning curve for me. It has much more on it then the 905g. I’m not sure I like the belt buckle thingeee. But I guess time will tell. Anything you all owners of this radio think I should know please feel free to let me know. Help for a 80 year older will be grateful. thanks, bob WRPL668
  8. If you have to use the stock antenna again would that be kinda loose? The 771 is big an you might want to use the one that came in the box. Just a thought. Still waiting for mine…….. bob - WRPL668
  9. Hmmm good point. The real one thing I don’t like about it is the antenna port is a touch small to put in a #771 replacement. I’ve seen some utube video on how to enlarge it. But I also heard that they are working on improvements so we’ll see. bob - WRPL668
  10. No need for testing it under water. I just want a decent radio to travel with me. I live in a dead area an have to drive/travel to get some comms. So if I’m home it just sits on the shelf. Don’t need a big buck to draw dust while I’m home. Let me know what you like best from your uv9g please. bob - WRPL668.
  11. Just ordered mine today from Radioddity. Hope it’s as good as yours.
  12. Thanks for your help. Went on the Radioddity web site an saw both the GM30 an the UV9R exactally the same price. With the uv9r water an dust proof I went for that. Got a small discount which brought the price down to $40.00. if I’ve to leave the radio on the shelf while home don’t need to have an expensive one. saved the repeaters in my area so I’ll put them in when it arrives. Fingers crossed. bob -WRPL668
  13. Well it looks like I’m gonna go for the GM30. Even if it’s a dead area where I live in New Jersey I do want a radio for when I travel. But where the Ocean was $120.00 the GM30 is almost a hundred buck less an has the same channels. I'm still gonna look for either a ham or GMRS club in my area. I don’t give up easily. thanks for your help. bob - WRPL668
  14. Wow thanks people for your great suggestions. On the GM30 I saw a video on YouTube that the aerial can’t be changed to a better one. I just want a radio while I travel place to place. I live in a kinda dead area so l have to drive to get some coms. Don’t want an expensive radio just sit while I’m home. I also saw a problem with the belt clip. Might have been just that radio. Reading the past few answers here you all are suggesting the GM30 would be a good starting radio for me. It’s also less expensive then the Ocean 905G. I really thank you all for your help this newbie. bob WRPL668
  15. Had to send back the Ocean 905G. It would appear it’s my doing. Now I’m going after a less expensive radio. I’ve narrowed it down to two radios. Either the GM30 or the Baoefeng uv9g. Of the two what do you recommend me purchasing? Will wait for the next sale with Radioddity but they do them often. Your opinion will help this newbie purchase my ext radio. thanks - bob WRPL668
  16. Thanks for the tip. Figured out the problem. bob
  17. Thanks gortex2 just left them a email. Wish me luck. bob
  18. With Boxcars help an my doings I’ve been trying to find any club in my part of New Jersey. No luck in my area. Now as a final try I need your help. I’ve been told that not all clubs are in the lists an maybe be the “word of mouth”list. If anyone has a lead of a possible club, either GMRS/Ham can you let me know please? Two weeks as a KG905G Ocean walkie an I’ve not been able to transmit one word. You can’t believe how quiet it is here. my area is north/east Monmouth county, New Jersey. My zip code is 07730 as a reference. thanks, bob - WRPL668
  19. Thanks for the help. Got a lead on a local club nearby an going to try that. My radio is still very quiet. bob
  20. The thought I have is if get real lucky an pass this test an get my license will I run into the “Quiet” that I appear to have now on GMRS. Good decent equipment costs. I’ve only so much to spend. That’s why I got a good radio. If I can get some local support I’d love to give it a chance (ham). if not I’ll just keep trying here with what I have. I hate quitting an I won’t. thanks all I do appreciate your input. bob
  21. BoxCar I actually gave the ham thing my thinking for a while. I admit my age shut the ham thing down. To my knowledge there is no people in my area to give this ole veteran some help to become a ham tech. What does bother me now is the lack of transmission by anyone on my GMRS radio for the past 10 days. I do hear people but never got any reply. Nothing an my radio is a good one. How can I tell if there any ham folks in my area. As part retired vet etc., got to be careful my my bucks. Now I have a $200.00 outlay an nobody talks near to me. God I hate wining. At least here I can yack with you nice folks. My radio, not so much. Thanks for letting blow off some frustration. bob
  22. I don’t give up that easy. I am wondering if I should have bought a less expensive radio. I’ll keep trying but so far na-da. I also hope I don’t regret not going into ham. Either way I have a good GMRS radio. thanks for your good help. bob
  23. I’ve the owners manual an it don’t say anything about this. Now I’m not that familiar with the different items of the 35 or so things while going through them but ever time I try an scan a repeater channel it goes to the frequency’s an I can’t get out without resetting it. Thanks anyway Tom. bob
  24. I’ve a question. When trying to scan a repeater channel my 905G goes into frequency numbers. How can I get out withou resetting? Happen before an I had to reset. Please help.
  25. I understand. You could be correct in what I’m not hearing. I can only try an keep trying until someone answers me. I just heard on standard channel 17 some conversations but could not make the trip myself. I’m still new to this. But it seems like in my area there isn’t much talking. Especially during the week. to old to get into ham at 80 years young. That’s why I’m trying GMRS. thanks again, bob
