  1. They are set right, I double checked.. a few times. they come in kinda fuzzy. But clear with the MONI button
  2. Many dont respond, put the R & T codes in and give it a shot..Not a dead key, announce your call sign..
  3. We lived on a farm in western Nebraska, used the CH 14 walkie talkies alot for communication, as I grew up we would touch the antenna to the lightning rod on the barn, gave us a BIG antenna. we could talk for many miles. But nobody could get back to us except a few local truck drivers.
  4. Ok, when listening to repeaters I have to push the MONI (monitor) button to hear people, but it gives me an ear full of static. Am I doing something wrong? I've tried adjusting squelch, doesn't help. I'm using it as a base, not mobile.
  5. Are you just doing simplex or a small local repeater? Simplex can be done with a FRS radio (no license) while GMRS requires a license
  6. I'm on a linked repeater Roadkill, Ive talked coast to coast and northern Ohio from my little radio in central Texas.. A lot of fun.. If you can get on a linked repeater. I use two others that are not linked for more local talk.
  7. I'm on a linked repeater near Ft Hood. (it'll always be Ft Hood) I can talk all over the US on a B tech 50W on a base antenna
  8. If you can reach the repeater and know the CTSS number, put them in the radio and have fun. My BTech will find the CTSS numbers if the channel is busy. I'm quite active on the Roadkill network, reach coast to coast using linked repeaters.
  9. just my $0.02 maybe the rain helped ground your mast? Or the wet ground acted as a ground plane? I have a chimney mounted Nagoya I had some welding cable I used for a ground, overkill but it's what I had.
  10. Yeah I have a small CB in my Ranger, all I get its the illegal overpowered crap Its all over the band.. In in central TX and hear Florida, Detroit, somebody up in New England, a couple in Colorado all come in like they are next door. That's kinda why I went to GMRS
  11. I use a Nagoya NMO-200c with GPK-01ground plain. on a 45 ft. pole it does OK
  12. Its hard to cover all GMRS radios, but the terminology is not standard. in and out tones are a big one. And repeater offsets. not all GMRS radios call it the same. And maybe a word on "Chirp" I've had alot of issues with it.
  13. Ok, so what is between 450.0 MHz (end of 70cm) and 462.5625 (beginning of GMRS) or between (top of GMRS) 467.7125 and 902.0 (bottom of 33cm) Kinda new to alot of this and I have nothing to scan these frequencies with. But they are NOT in the Ham spectrum, so what are they used for? And could GMRS expand into them? Ok so the existing GMRS would not be able to use them, but the FCC recently authorized FM to the CB world..Thanks to Cobra electronics. how many old CBs have FM? We started with 23 channels AM & SSB, then 40 AM & SSB now with FM
