    I want to make a pack radio using the MXT115 & 8 amp battery. I want to set it up into self contained box pouch . That way it still can be used while in the backpack. Like the older military pack radios.
    That way I have a radio that has a little more power then a HT unit in the field .
    I will also set up a 25 watt Ham radio .

    I haven’t ordered my V2 yet . I’m seriously considering buying one . I’m just kinda waiting to see the new Wouxun and a few reviews on it . Before I decide on buying the V2 . The Wouxun KG-S88G . It is supposed to be a more rugged radio. IP67 rating. Cost about $70 more then the V2 .
    Although anything Wouxun comes out with in GMRS you almost got to wait a year before you can get your hands on it .
    All and all I think that the V2 is a good value for a GMRS plus it’s IP54 rating will cover anything that I will put a radio through. I can also buy extra batteries fairly easily and cheap plus I have 3 v1 radios, that I can switch parts for etc. think I just talked myself back into buying the V2

  10. Power supply for base station.

    I want to power a 25 watt radio I already have a power supply for my radio . I just want a back up supply that way I have a way to run my radio when the electric goes out. I have thought about using a power bank such as jump box or something like the Jackery 160 or similar. Then I thought about just a 12 volt marine battery and running cables from the radio to the direct to battery. Of course fused. It would be a semi permanent set up . At some point solar to charge the battery.

    Is there any of those jump boxes or power banks like the Jackery able to produce the ample amount of amps to power a 25watt mobile radio?

    What do you guys recommend. New to radio and GMRS. WRQK522

  11. simplex repeater ADS SR-1

    From my base antenna to the place I plan to put the repeater is about 4 miles. I’m lucky I live on a hill. It’s not the highest point of the hill but it’s fairly clear to the next hill and just a bit higher. The place I plan to put the repeater is fairly or would be fairly close to line of sight.
    My radio at the house is 25watts . So I’m sure to hit my repeater. I just not sure even with a good antenna I can with just a 5watt radio hooked to the repeater report back to base radio. At some point I plan on upgrading my base radio antenna and cable. When I do that I can use that to help the repeater. I was wanting to use a Midland MXT115 or similar radio and the SR-112 combination. That would if I could use the MXT115 be plenty to reach the base radio . My brother only has a hand held radio. From his house to were I will put the SR112 will be fine , with a 5 watt radio.
    Now that I have thought a little bit . The SR112 combined with 5watt radio might just be enough. For clear communication. I will have to try it with a radio I plan on hooking to the sr112.
    Just go back into the place I want to set up and make a call back to base . See a signal from the repeater location to base will make it .
    I have also thought about using a BTECH u25 amp to boost the wattage on the repeater radio also . It just will make it harder to hide the repeater rig .
    I have several ideas just trying to come up with the most practical and compact way of doing it .
    No more then we will use it power to run what ever I plan on using is not a big problem. So solar etc. isn’t going to be used . A 7mh battery will be used and we will charge it at home . That same battery will also be powering the radio and sr112.

    That’s one of the first good reviews I have seen on a Baofeng GMRS radio in a long time. I’m thinking about ordering one.
    I have several HT GMRS radio including a Wouxun KG805G. As far as range and sound can’t tell the difference between the V1 and the KG805G.
    The V2 seems like it would be a little easier to work with repeater then V1 one or Wouxun. For the price honestly I think it might be a decent radio. Also I don’t think the v1 has a IP rating. The V2 has the IP54 rating .
    It’s not submersible i also don’t plan on using it while swimming.

    I got a email today from BTECH . They have got a new GMRS radio now. It’s the V2 . Basically the V1 one that can store 200 modified GMRS channels and they are saying that it has a high out put of 5watts. I have 3 of the v1 GMRS radios . I got mine when BTECH changed the or reduced the power output of the V1 down to 2 watts on high. Mine all hit at 4.97 watts.

    Just wanted to know if any of you guys knew about the V2 yet ? Also wanted to know your thoughts.

    I have been interested into setting up a simplex repeater similar to what you are mentioning. I was planning on using the Surecom SR-112 . I have a plan on how to power the repeater. The only thing is I live in southeast Ohio lots of trees and hills . I can set the repeater high up in the trees etc. I just don’t think using a 5watt hand held with even a good antenna will be enough to cover the area I want it to cover.
    My question is with the ADS-1 are you able to use a mobile radio such as a MXT115, or a Retevis RA25 radio?
    If so what cables .
