  1. There's a group here in southern California that still does this traffic net several times a week. Pretty dedicated bunch.
  2. This site isn't exactly a GMRS repeater system. Also, to be clear, the FCC hasn't actually shut down any linked repeater systems. There have been some that have been shut down by their operators out of an abundance of caution, fearing hellfire and brimstone from the FCC. Kind of an important distinction. I think so, anyway.
  3. I saw that one the day it was posted. Not only didn't I take it seriously, I couldn't respond because it's hard to type a response when I'm ROTFLMAO.
  4. I've often thought about it. I think it's a great idea. From what I've read, especially here, there seems to be not only universal support for the idea, but very clear rules set forth by the FCC concerning implementation. I say let's try it! What's the worst that can happen.
  5. There's a lot of Youtube tutorials on tuning duplexers. It's more of a process than could be explained here, although folks will try. It also takes some specialized equipment, such as a vector network analyzer, although some people claim you can do it with a NanoVNA. I would suggest using an internet search engine to find such videos, and at least you'll know the process. No doubt there are people out there who could tune it in exchange for money.
  6. The way this topic devolved to name-calling and threats reminds me of my favorite movie.
  7. Give it a couple days. It takes some time for this site to update after the FCC issues your call sign.
  8. Yep, but in order to make it stick, they need to clarify the actual rules, not just the operations page. Maybe that's next. But changing the operations page was a big step that shows they're at least listening.
  9. It doesn't help that Motorola actually supposedly trademarked and marketed the acronymn "PL", as in "Private Line tone", leading many folks down a garden path to believing that they really did make conversations private. But like Flat Earthers, no matter how much you insist, they won't believe you.
  10. That is by far the funniest thing I've heard all day! Thanks for the laugh. I needed it.
  11. This is exactly how I set up an HT in my wife's Kia. If you only need five watts or so, it's a good solution. If you need more power, some of these mounts might be able to hold a small mobile radio. Lido, for example, makes a variety of such mounts. https://www.lidoradio.com/
  12. It wouldn't be hard, and actually not a bad idea, especially if you're on a budget or just frugal like me. I've seen folks use velcro to attach some of these smaller radios to the center console or the top of the dash (be careful with that one because you don't want the air bag launching it at your face).
  13. All this back-and-forth over how many people you can cram under a $35 license. Seems like if these brothers, sisters and nephews ponied up $5 each, they could buy mom her own license. Happy birthday mom!
  14. Merus off-road park in Texas is one example. It was covered in a thread here a while back. They require patrons to have GMRS radios, and they rent them out.
  15. Not that I care, because I don't, but wouldn't some of this contradict (or at least call into question) all the unqualified "yes" responses to the OP's question?
  16. I'm going to be a little harsh here, so bear with me. Send this thing back where you got it and get your money back. It was not intended for GMRS, and it won't work. Before you spend another penny on equipment, ask here first. A simple question like "Will an MMDVM hotspot work with GMRS?" would have been met with a resounding "no", and would have saved you time, aggravation and quite possibly money if you end up stuck with this thing.
  17. I'd love to stick around and watch this thread, but mercy sakes I gotta hit the super slab, put the hammer down and motor on over to my work 10-20. I'm gonna keep the shiny side up and watch out for smokeys handing out green stamps. I sure don't want to feed the bears. Catch you on the flip side. Be creful out there, we'd rather talk to ya than read about ya. WRQC527 10-10 and 10-7. We gone. Bye bye.
  18. No Taco Villa that I know of. There was a Tacos Benge but it got bulldozed last month and a Circle K is going in. Progress, I guess.
  19. Just curious, where do you want to put this inline connector, and why? Are you planning to cut the cable and insert a connector? And depending on the connectors you're planning to install, there are some that don't require crimping, and only a little soldering.
  20. The restaurant is still there, the carhops are gone, so are the corporate headquarters. They do have carhops at Sonic Burgers, which is actually closer to me than the Carl's, which you should have been able to tell from the map you looked at. But I don't like their food. Also, don't trouble yourself with recollections.
  21. I'm sure you have examples and statistics to back up this claim. Share with us, won't you?
  22. Thanks Jethro, I'll make a note of it. By the way, do you know how we know toothpaste was invented by geographically-challenged rural lifestyle enthusiasts? Because otherwise it would be called teethpaste.
  23. Mayhaps that's because there is no voting in those sections. And yes, there is ganging up on some folks in sections that don't have voting. Just recently there was some hillbilly who came in here ranting about how he wasn't interested in following any FCC rules. He pretty quickly went away because he was ganged up on, in addition to being thrown out of his repeater club after 48 hours and ending up on a number of ignore user lists here.
  24. Sorting by votes often gets weaponized, if you will. I've seen it quite often. Some people post things that are so off-topic, so irritating, or so irrelevant that they get down-voted to the bottom of the pile. Or they're just so universally disliked that anything they post gets down-voted. It's sort of a passive-aggressive way to fight back anonymously. It's the MyGMRS equivalent of getting voted off the island.
  25. It would appear so. Which I find odd, because one of the premier repeaters in southern California hosts a net that I presume is run from someone's house. Unless he's sitting in his driveway on an HT or in his car.
