  1. You won't get an a-99 to tune on UHF, way too much work for the minimal efficiency compared to a gain antenna designed for 460-470mhz.
  2. Ok the issue you're having could be one of several things so I'll break it down. 1: The radios you are using are not very well filtered and were never intended for duplex operation. The receiver may still be seeing the transmitter locally. Try bypassing the Henry amplifier and see how the performance of the system is. 2: Henry amplifiers suck and can be spurious. I have had dozens of them crap out over the years. Bypass the amplifier for now. 3. Have you performed a defense test? Have someone go out to a drop out location while you are in front of the repeater. Have them transmit and while they are talking. Shut off your repeater transmitter and see if the signal improves on the receiver. 4: What else is at your site? You may be fine internally to your repeater, however it does not sound as if you are utilizing any form of intermod protection (I.E. Isolator, circulator panel etc...) There may be some other repeater or transmitter that mixes with your transmitter and is causing inter-modulation which in turn would dramatically kill off your receive radio's sensitivity in full duplex mode.   3. If the MTR is alerting High Swr then how is the swr after the duplexer? Do you maybe have a bad cavity or bad connector on the cavity itself somewhere? As far as the jumper replacement goes; RG-8 and LMR-400 have different velocity factors and the cavities will need to be tuned with the new jumpers in place. RfMedic
  4. So this is to start discussion and to vent a tad at the same time. I often sit and wonder why I have a professional repeater on the air - running a Motorola Quantar, CELWAVE Duplexer, intermod filtering, heliax, decibel folded dipoles etc.. Meanwhile I have to listen to a newbie who clearly did NO frequency planning whatsoever running pieced together, flea market equipment with no standards that sits and transmits for hours on end rebroadcasting "Zello" traffic on the same repeater pair I've occupied for years with excellent coverage. Now to clear things up, I'm all for system linking and expanding coverage etc... However, there is absolutely NO reason to have your GMRS transmitter simulcasting nonsense from way outside the area or even time zone for that matter with only a handful of users coming in to the repeater locally. As far as I'm concerned, being a shared service with minimal spectrum allocated, especially for repeaters, there is no reason to tie up and congest an area, in particularly in the vicinity of New York City, with rebroadcasting primarily Internet traffic.   5. I would not allow your mobile duplexer to even be taken out of your car at one of my sites... They have no business at professional and shared location. If you're supplied with a TX combiner and RX multicoupler you may need to add an additional bandpass to tighten up the RX side of things. Generally a multicoupler is going to have a wide bandpass filter (i.e. 465-470) and that might be too broad to keep other services from killing you especially those that are co-located. Just food for thought...
  6. It all depends on site management and the territory it serves. Here in New York City the install costs at some locations could run you $5000 plus the monthly because you have to factor in the cost of liability insurance as well as the fee for the climbers to mount your antenna and route your feedline. Also, most well organized sites have minimum equipment requirements I.E. You're not going to get away with 2 mobile radios and a cheap duplexer/antenna. You've got to coexist with the other customers at the site so quality equipment is a must. Again it is all location specific...

  8. Two-Tone or MDC based is the least annoying. Monitor pagers or enabling the MDC call in your radios is the simplest

  11. NYC1 (ERS affiliate) is back to normal. Mother Nature finally provided a nice day to change a bad antenna.
  12. Not too familiar with the vxr-9000, only setup one or two of them years ago. What's the big deal about the constant id? You shouldn't hear it when your radio is in tone decode/dcs decode whatever you're using... As far as the 3 beeps, possible TIme out Timer alarm. I'll see if I have a programming manual floating around.

  15. We have a very special set of skills and antennas. And we will find you. Some of us are professional interference hunters, and I for one enjoy a good chase *insert evil laugh* paddle faster I hear banjos!!!
  16. I'm using a 470-512 Quantar on gmrs with no problems. CPS does not care what Freq you enter it has no limits.
  17. Kenwood TKR-851 Repeater driving a TPL amplifier with a good Wacom, CELWAVE, or TX/RX duplexer. An old GE Mastr 2 power supply. Feed line at least 7/8" heliax and a Commander PD-455. Perhaps a polyphaser to save all those toys in the rack as well as grounding kits on the heliax/antenna. That's the setup I put in 6 years ago and it sees around 12-15hours of airtime a day. Haven't touched it since it was installed.
