Radtel 730 and kplug Radtel mic/speaker issue
JBRPong replied to WSFS367's question in Technical Discussion
I have one of these and the RT-730's plug is not the standard K1. You will need to get the correct one from RadTel that's model specific. -
I don't think there is a way to do that. I have the UV-21 version and I wish the name displayed has larger letters, same size as the freq numbers but have not found a way.

I have the GT-3WP which is the ham version. It's a good radio for the price. Had it out in the rain several times. My coworker has UV-9Gs and he likes them as well.
-
I took my HTs to the hardware store to try several they had and bought 10 of each of the ones that fit just right.
-
I've never used the oem rubber duckies, never took them out of the box. I will get an adapter and try. It's mostly for listening/monitoring anyway.

Noob question because I can't sleep. Seen lots of posts about using mobile antenna on HT but has anyone used a HT antenna on a mobile radio using an elbow connector? Any SWR worries? I have a UV25x2 so it's not putting out too much power so it shouldn't go over the rated wattage of the Abbree or Smiley. When not using that in the car, I have it in the corner of my apartment and after tripping on the mag mount antenna few times, I was wondering how well it would work using an HT antenna. Most of the time I'm just listening so not transmitting to often.

I have the UV-25x2, but the manual shows same for the 50x2. Sync Display Channels To sync channels on the display (simultaneously display channel name and frequency), follow these steps: 1. Press the key to enter the menu. 2. Enter 32 on your numeric keypad to come to the Sync Menu 3. Press key to select. 4. Use the and keys to select: a. AB –To sync A/B Displays b. CD – To sync C/D Displays c. AB+CD – To sync both A/B and C/D Displays 5. Press to confirm and save. 6. Press to exit the menu.

Not sure if this applies to your situation. Most radios have dual watch. My son is at school an hour away, we both have the local repeater on 1 channel and a GMRS channel on the other one. That came in handy when he hit an animal on his way home just at the edge of the repeater coverage. He was able to hear me when I was on the repeater on way out to help but I couldn't hear him and was able to get him on the non repeater channel when I got closer. We both have HTs with dual PTTs so that made this setup much easier to use.

Ah... sorry. Should have my glasses on. Thank you!

Noob question. What are "state" repeaters?

I have 2 sets of these and they are great. My son and I can talk to each other at the range without shouting. I replaced the rubber pads with gel ones and they are much more comfortable and seals better around the ear.

No experience with the ghost type but I have the Midland MXTA26 mag mount and it helped quite a bit. And when I'm not using it on the car I have it on a cookie tin out on the balcony (2nd floor apartment) and I can pick up repeater 40 miles away.

I have the KG-Q10H version and unlocked for GMRS and I like it a lot. I really like the customizable display colors due to my color blindness. I also have a KG-UV9G and I like the Q10 better due to the display. I started with the cheap Baofengs and I have several different models to learn and discover what I like and don't like before I spent more on the Wouxuns. Now I keep the cheap Baofengs in each car for back up.

Maybe ask BTech, support@baofengtech.com.

BAOFENG GMRS 9R 5watt vs. a 20watt radio for base station
JBRPong replied to WSDU214's topic in Equipment Reviews
The repeater antenna is probably higher off the ground. Line of sight is important. -
Sorry, I should have proof read my response. I meant the Q10s have dual PTTs and option to set the upper one dedicated to the upper freq displayed and the bottom ptt for the bottom freq displayed. Where as the 9Gx, the main PTT is always the main freq selected and the tiny optional button is always for the 2ndary freq and that is confusing to me sometimes.

I have one. It's a good radio. But I like the Q10G/H better. The Q's functions are easier for me to use, also the many display text color choice, I can choose one that is easier for my color blindness to see. The Q is also water proof and the dual PTT on the Q is easier to use than the 9GX.

Can BTECH UV-25x2 run on a simple power adapter?
JBRPong replied to WRXR374's question in Technical Discussion
I have a UV25x2. it has the 12v car plug. When not used in the car, I use a cheap AC to DC power converter and it seems to work ok. I've even used my 300 watt portable battery station sometimes when I'm outside. I think a more expensive proper power supply is better but I'm saving up for one in the future. -
Thanks for the info!

The Nagoya 771 was a little tight on my 9G, but someone here suggested twisting the base in some sand paper to thin it down a little tiny bit and I could get an extra turn in when tightening. Worked great.

^ That's what my son said last time he came home from college.
