  1. ^ That's what my son said last time he came home from college.
  2. That's a bummer it's offline and the repeaters are no longer linked. I got used to listening in the morning for weather and road conditions when I'm going out of town.
  3. Thank you!
  4. Is there a place to look up what is improved or fixed on each of the Chirp updates?
  5. I have Wouxun Q10G and KG9X - both can do air band receive only. Also have Radtel RT-730 although not GMRS only but much cheaper than both Wouxuns, can receive air band too.
  6. Have a Radtel RT-730. Only seems to work well with the Smiley slim duck antenna. The receive is terrible with multiple 771s and even the Abbree folding antennas which all work great on the Baofengs and Wouzuns that I have.. Is this normal?
  7. I got a few of those. They are great!
  8. Have several 771s and just got Smiley slim duck last week. I think both feel about the same for recieve/transmit. Definitely way better than stock antenna. Also have the foldable Abbree ones, they receive the best but are way too bulky to walk around with.
  9. Had CBs when I was a teenager. Bought Motorola talkabout radios when driving across country with family in a 2nd car for more range. Read the manual and it mentioned needing GMRS license to talk on some of the frequencies. Went to FCC site and registered for one. Few years later, ran across some Youtube videos on GMRS and bought cheap BaoFeng to play with and learned about repeaters.
  10. I have a KG-UV9GX and the KD-Q10H. I like the Q10H display MUCH better. I have some color blindness and the display's almost infinite color choices help a lot. Also displays more characters each row. The Q10H can also set the PTTs so the top PTT button is always for the top frequency/channel displayed. The UV9GX cannot do that.
  11. I think I've seen on the interwebs that the KG-UV9PX can be expanded.
  12. My UV-21 does that too. I just got used to pressing the return/exit key and the display lights up again. I think this feature saves some battery life.
  13. Midland MXTA26 next to the windows. I'm in a 2nd story apartment.
  14. I "lost" mine in a fishing accident.
  15. I had the UV-21R version, looks identical. Had the dark background. I like the display with the large numbers and the number pad being more "normal" with 0 at the bottom. However, the display went out after 1 week. Returned it for replacement. The replacement had white back ground, which is the older firmware and the white back ground was harder to see and it had smaller numbers in the display. I returned. Bummer because I like the 999 channels and upload and download to Chirp was way faster than my other Baofengs.
  16. I had this issue with one of my 771s, I just put a rubber o ring in between and it doesn't screw in all the way and it's working normally.
  17. Base - BTech UV-25x2 - antenna Midland MXTA26 on a cookie sheet by the window (learned that from a jeep guy on the interwebs) Baofeng UV-9G Wouxun KG-UV9gx
  18. Noob question. Haven't been able to find info on the pros and cons of putting the mag mount antenna on the hood of my car. Got new car with glass roof and I'm trying to find a good way of using the NMO mag mount I have without buying something new. I used to just slap it on the middle of the roof on my old car when I need to use it and it worked great. Any suggestions if it's a bad idea to put it on the hood? and if there is a best location on the hood. Thanks in advance for any helpful info.
