Our car club did a group drive in the mountains last weekend. We were all within a mile range and used FRS walkie talkies (Ch5) Everything worked great, we were able to communicate, turns, street lights if someone didn't make it to the leader and if someone had a problem. I used a Beofeng GM15 pro and lent a couple blister pack Cobra radios to those that didn't have one. Seemed like the cheapo ones worked out just fine. Apparently, others are doing the same thing. Good to keep one of these in the Glove Box!

I have a little UV5R and a 2 1/2 Rubber duck. It my most used radio because its cheap, if I drop, break or lose it no sleep lost. And in most cases I do not need that much range. I need a small light radio that fits in my pocket easily or I can clip on my shirt collar.
