  1. BINGO!!! You found the solution, thank you. As soon as I disabled the weather alert this behavior stopped. Many many thanks!! ??
  2. You get that menu with a Wouxun KG-935G and CHIRP? I don't see that menu in my CHIRP. I am attaching an image of the options I see.
  3. thank you MIchaelLAX, I tried that, I even bumped the squelch to its max (9) - same exact results, it made no difference ?
  4. I noticed something weird, at least to me, when I use the scan option on my Wouxun KG-935G. The scan begins, and then it stops for a few seconds on various frequencies and then resumes. But when I listen, there is nothing but static. Yet the green light goes on and the blue signal bar shows a strong signal. Why is that? None of my other radios (Baofeng UV-5G, Baofeng UV-9G, BTECH GMRS Pro) do that. I tried playing around with the squelch, but the behavior remains. Can somebody explain what is going on? Also, I tried to see how the scanning works and I keyed up one of my other radios (say the UV-5G) and I noticed that as soon as I keyed up, the Wouxun KG-935G would stop scanning, but it would stop on the wrong channel. I was keying up on GMRS 18 and the radio would stop on a repeater channel. Could it be that in close proximity to the emitting radio the Wouxun KG-935G detects maybe some kind of "harmonics" or bleed-over into other frequencies? Can somebody explain this or did I get a lemon with serious scanning issues? Do I need to educate myself on the Wouxun KG-935G or do I need to return the unit? Thanks for any help!
  5. Which strongly suggest to me that the software was botched in its design. I will go with CHIRP which I trust much more.
  6. thanks, but now since I am back to my (Linux) comfort zone, I think I will stick to it! But thank you for your clarification!
  7. I gave up on trying to get Windows to work (frankly, I hate it and find if baffling in its illogical complexity). I have no idea why exactly I could not get it to work with Windows (in my case Windows 10) but if I can use CHRIP on Linux I am a very happy camper ? Windows might be too complex for my tiny brain, Linux is for dummies, including me!
  8. I don't use Venmo, but I will bestow upon you my eternal gratitude ? also, to thank everybody here, I was thinking of posting a review of my radios "for noobies by a noobie", maybe that will help others in their first steps ? Kind regards, tons of thanks, and Merry Christmas!!
  9. LOL, okay fair enough, but just tell me (the dodo-brain) which column exactly is for the repeater input and output tones and I will keep my promise!?
  10. Actually, I finally managed to get CHIRP working on Linux! So my final question: in CHIRP, where do I set the repeater input and output tones? Thank you in advance for putting up with me! ?
  11. The device manager found this: Location: Port#0005 Hub #0001 (so the new COM port has appeared I suppose, port 5) But when I tried to use it I got this message: "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) There are no compatible drivers for this device. To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver." When I try to update the driver I get this: "Windows was unable to install you CP2102 USB to UARD Bridge Controller. Windows could not find drivers for your device" On the Wouxun software, I cannot pick a port, under the "port" menu, all the ports are greyed out and port 1 the only one checkmarked. and when I try to read from the radio I get this message: "Failed connection! Please check if powered ON or well connected the com port!"" One the CHIRP software I cannot see ANY ports from the dropdown menu. Any ideas?
  12. Sorry, but which menu specifically is it? RX-CTCSS TX-CTTSS RX-DCS OR TX-DCS or all four (input on RX-CTCSS and RX-DCS and output on TX-CTCSS and TX-DCS?). Sorry for being such a noob! ?
  13. When I use this cable on Windows, it does not "see" the radio. Frankly, I have not used Windows since 2000 (have been on Linux instead). How can I find out to which USB port my cable is connected and what I shall call it from inside either the Wouxun software or CHRIP (for Windows)?
  14. Thank you so much. OffRoaderX, your videos and your presence here have been a huge help for me!
  15. So I broke the piggie bank and got myself a Wouxun KG-935G for Christmas ? First impression? Love the radio! But, having read the user manual several times, I still have 3 questions: 1) Where/how do I assign repeater input and output tones? 2) the second channel window shows "KG-935G" (if I do not have dual channels enabled). Can I change that and, if yes, where (I would like to place my callsign). Alternatively, the very top like also reads "Wouxun KG-935G" - can I place my callsign there and, if yes, how? 3) I got the programming cable and driver on a mini-CD, but I don't have a CD/DVD player. Can I download that driver somewhere (I used WIndows 10)? Right now, the KG-935G programming software cannot "see" the radio and the "com" menu is greyed out. Thank you! PS: I tried the CHRIP software tool too but I could not get it to work under Windows and Linux, but with Windows it does not see it, and with Linux I have permission problems ? so, if at all possible, use the radio without any programming software
  16. thank you both for your help in making sense of the manual! I am a noobie (as you can tell from my questions) and the manual (and app) are confusing to me. Many thanks!!
  17. I own Btech GMRS Pro and I have six questions about it: 1) When I simply press the "scan" button how can I monitor what frequencies are actually being scanned? Right now all I see is a "Z" 2) does the unit only scan the GRMS and repeater channels or does it scan all the frequencies between 136MHz-174MHz, 462MHz-468MHz and 400MHz-520MHz? 3) Is there a way for me to make the unit scan ONLY the GRMS+repeater channels? If yes, how? 4) Is there a way for me to make the unit scan only the VHF frequencies? If yes, how? I also noticed that when I press the scan button the unit stops are the first channel/frequency which it detects and just stays there forever. My question then is 5) Is there a way to make the unit "resume scan" after a determined time (say 10 seconds unless I press a button)? Finally, 6) Can I manually assign a specific frequency, say Marine Channel 16 (156.8 MHz) to the unit and monitor it? If so, how? I thank you in advance for your replies.
  18. I have purchased a Btech GMRS-Pro and I love it! I just have two questions about it: If monitor two channels, say one GRMS and one repeater channel, will the radio still be ready to receive NOAA warnings if I set NOAA on "WX alert"? Because if yes, then it means that the radio actually monitors 3 frequencies, the two channels PLUS NOAA, right? Also, when traveling, do I need to scan and select the local NOAA channel and somehow select it for the "WX alert" feature to work or will the radio do that automatically while I travel? Thank you
  19. Hi I have just received a (very nice) BTECH GMRS-PRO (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0B4BLZ67Z) and I would like to replace the original antenna with a Genuine Nagoya NA-771G. My problem is that I am not quite sure which one to pick (none of the ones I have seem to fit this base). I have attached a photo of the base of the antenna for this radio. Could anybody please post an Amazon link to the Nagoya NA-771G version I need to purchase for this radio? Many thanks in advance!!
  20. Understood ? Thank you all for your replies! Oh, and OffroarderX - thank you for your videos, they made me purchase my first GMRS radios and I love them!
  21. well then, I will follow up with another "noob" question: where can I learn the proper terminology to use? Stuff like "break" or "roger" or "over" etc? is there some kind of reference of such terms specifically for GMRS?
