Repeater connection problem!!!

Question

Posted

So I have a Baofeng UV-5G Plus and a TidRadio H8. I'm having serious problems hitting a local repeater near me. The repeater is JoshRadio; I entered the tone listed and even drove within a mile of the repeater but no one can hear my transmission! Can someone please help me troubleshoot this problem? Maybe I missing it! Please HELP!!!

Have you tested talking simplex?   If no problems there, you probably have a programing issues..  Can you break the squelch on the repeater?, you should hear that when you key up the repeater ch..

Yes I have tested simplex and that's fine. I cannot break the squelch, and I don't hear anything regarding. What would be your recommendation for programming that I might have missed? It's driving me nuts! LoL!!!

Offset +5MHz

use a channel that allows transmit

Those both fall squarely under item #1 of my list.. He has a GMRS radio, and obviously he is a n00b so the mention of "offset" is unnecessary and only adds to his confusion.

unless he overrode via programing software.   I did that once.

You are correct. I do have a GMRS radio and the offset is automatically applied. I programmed through Chirp. So currently I'm listening to the repeater now; however, I cannot transmit to do a radio check.

This My Chirp. It is channel 25 Tidradio H8..

When I transmit I say my call name and release and hear no squelch tail, no one responds.

Have you confirmed that the Transmit tone is correct for the repeater?

Yes I have. Or at least what is indicated on this website. I saw that is was updated not long ago as well. Does everything look ok on Chirp. By the way, love your Youtube show!

ok.. so you have NOT confirmed the tone is correct..
CHIRP looks good to me, but see what the experts have to say.

Have you ever tested your radio with a power meter?

Have you tried transmitting from your UV5G+?  Some Tidradios have bad transmit.

Yes, same problem! I have transmitted between the two radios on a simplex channel miles away and the both work just fine.

So you have two radios, neither of which can transmit to that repeater... So, its very simple:

  1. Tone is wrong
  2. Channel/frequency is wrong
  3. You're too far from the repeater
  4. Repeater is offline

I'm out.

Thanks very much. I will try to reach the owner of that repeater to confirm further.
