Baofeng UV-5RH Pro GPS Software Issues.

Question

Posted

So, I got the two 5RH Pro GPS radios today. I have the Baofeng programming software downloaded and running. Now for the issue, it can't read the radio. I tried my normal cable that works for all of my other radios and I tried the one Baofeng provided. It simply fails to read. Crazy thing is I can download a power on picture to the radio so I know the cable is plugged in properly and the radio is getting signal, it's just a No Go for reading or writing anything else to the radio.  I really don't want to program all the channels by hand using the front panel since when I did try and wanted to name the channel it was all Chinese letters.  Anyone else have these radios and having issues like this?

Also, CHIRP is no help since this radio it too new to be supported. Anyway, I'm going to do more research and watch some YouTube videos to see if I can figure this out and if any of ya'll come up with anything please let me know. Thanks.

Last week I bought a Baofeng AR-152 Pro GPS. I wasn't surprised that it isn't supported by CHIRP, but I was surprised that there's no factory CPS either. Maybe that's because it's allegedly programmable via Bluetooth, but I haven't experimented with that yet. i have input a few channels manually, and overall, I like the features, so I won't be sending it back, but it's probably going on a shelf until there's a more efficient way to program it available.

I'd be interested to know if other people are having your problem because I was considering the 5RH Pro GPS. I downloaded the 5RHPG program and tried it with the 152PG because the features are similar, but it wouldn't read my radio. Now I wonder if it's an issue of quirky software instead of radio incompatibility.

I went ahead and bought the AR-5RH Pro GPS and indeed the Baofeng software won't read it. However, the RT Systems software works just fine with it.

Nice, I'm glad you found a solution.  I'm too cheap to pay for software, that's why I run MX Linux on my old AIO computer, LOL.

The UV 17(R,H,?,whatever it is)Pro GPS seems to work ok with the Modified Software you can download for it. I just wish I could put different Zones on the A and B channel but I guess the BF F8HP Pro(with GPS) is the model you'd need to do that. It's $70, The 17 Pro was only $33 so about half the price and the GPS actually works too.

So far(knock on wood) I've not had any bleed over of channels from the Zones with the 1.07 Firmware. Maybe they've fixed it. I know the 1.03 is newer but I don't want to chance bricking the radio so I'll run what came on it.

I don't get the benefit of GPS on a HT if it just gives you lat/long type data. I need a map to see where I am or going to.  (I used to have stand alone GPS device that worked well, mostly.)

When you are lost/stuck in the middle of nowhere and trying to get help, knowing your coordinates can be very helpful.
