Crazy Posted August 20 Report Posted August 20 Hey Y'all. Looking to connect with other owners so we can learn from each other and a start a 'family of friends' with the TID in common. I've had mine a year. Still trying to figure out all the functions and codes. I did a firmware update a few months ago and fried my unit.. TIDradio sent me a replacement unit.. That was nice of them. I just wish they would make a better belt clip that actually stays on the belt, suspender, pocket, etc. I create separate repeater channels and use the codes for tx and rx, yet still no reaching anyone. I'm in a town with a couple repeaters around, but no noise. Only when I'm close to a walmart or home depot will I hear it go off. I'm currently south of St. Louis, MO and Marion, IL. Later. Jaay Posted August 20 Report Posted August 20 My poor H8 has been a dust magnet, since I bought my Wouxun 935H Crazy 1 Quote
LeoG Posted August 21 Report Posted August 21 I have a bunch of them. Passed a bunch out to my family. Use them to keep in contact with the wife through my repeater along with the mobile Wouxun. I know most of the ins and outs of the TD-H3 Quote
WRTC928 Posted August 21 Report Posted August 21 Do owners of these radios call themselves H8ers? Crazy, RoadApple, WRXB215 and 1 other 1 3 Quote
LeoG Posted August 21 Report Posted August 21 Weird. Turned on the H3 and it was in Stun/Kill mode, no access. Thought I'd have to talk with Luxi again. Turns out if you use the USB port and their CPS you just reprogram the radio and you're all set. I have lots of AM stations in my radio for the airport and the CPS won't program those. But I also use OD Master and it has all those programmed in it so just re-reprogrammed it and it's all back to normal. Took about 1 minute. No idea what set off the kill mode though. Quote
LeoG Posted August 21 Report Posted August 21 Just looked. Kill and Stun are turned off in the CPS, not sure about the OD Master. Quote
LeoG Posted August 21 Report Posted August 21 Kill and Stun are off in OD Master too. Interesting...... Quote
Crazy Posted August 21 Author Report Posted August 21 So, if I can pry, @Jaay, what didn't you like about your h8? What do you like about your wouxon that the h8 failed you on? My new replaced h3 locked up on me yesterday as i had to keep it in my pocket as the belt clips suck period and I'm tired of it falling to the floor/ground with every movement. Couldn't find any help to unlock the kill lock with one unit only. So I hooked it up to my Odmaster online and it downloaded the new firmware without my acknowledgement and ruined this radio, like the firmware did to my original unit.. So now, even tho the radio is locked with s kill lock and no number for it in the manual, it is locked and with the new firmware installed, which locks the radio in transmit mode and won't stop unless you turn it off. I liked the conveniences of the small unit with both ham and gmrs. But now I am seeing more for sale and tested on youtube and they all look like they are manufactured in the same plant and just put different names on them. So, I am interested in hearing your thoughts on your h8 as that was going to be my next replacement, moving up to 10 watts as I can't reach the local repeaters where I am in missouri, south of st. louis. Have a great Thursday and thanks again for responding to my post.. Crazy WSDX855 To the others, I couldn't get od master to fully load up on the screen it was all grayed out, but it did upgrade the firmware which doesn't like older version radios. so now I am just waiting for the guys in china to get back to me today.. They do respond quickly, that I will say.. Quote
LeoG Posted August 21 Report Posted August 21 (bluetooth) OD Master can't do a firmware update as far as I know. You need to be physically plugged in to do and update using the IAP software. The CPS software easily took off the stun/kill on mine. Not even a little struggle. Quote
bladeofanduril Posted August 22 Report Posted August 22 I'm very new to radio and just recently picked up a pair of H8 Gen 3s and a pair of H8 Gen 2s (bought their "mystery box" H8 offer). I've done a little bit of programming with ODmaster via bluetooth. Data cable came yesterday, so now I can mess with CHIRP and firmware. I'm tempted to experiment with Nicsure firmware, or any other custom firmware that might be out for these. Its been a fun learning experience so far. Quote
LeoG Posted Saturday at 10:40 PM Report Posted Saturday at 10:40 PM I've ordered 14 of the H3's so far and passed them out to family. I have 6 myself that I keep in the house. 2 are in constant use scanning. The other 4 in a go box. Out of those 14 two were bad and got replaced for free and they didn't ask for the old one back. I hung onto them thinking I could open them up and see if maybe I could find out why they were DOA. Well today I pulled one apart hoping for an easy find, like a bad solder joint to the antenna. No such luck and I couldn't get the screen removed to get at the screws underneath to remove the circuit board. So I started to put it back together and decided that the one I use all the time could benefit from a new keypad since mine is wearing out. So I swapped them out and now I have a brand new spanking keypad on the 1 1/2 year old radio. SteveShannon, Crazy and WRXB215 3 Quote
Crazy Posted Tuesday at 05:14 PM Author Report Posted Tuesday at 05:14 PM @LeoG Thank you for you input. When I used my usb-c cable to plug into the programming port, it updated the firmware without my knowledge. The Od master page looked different, like the old page with my 1st h3. And it wouldn't load properly when I tried to open the page. and as the page was grayed out. I couldn't see much. But I was able to scroll thru the page and found the kill switch button, it was off. So now the phone is useless. I'm expecting a reply from tid on how to proceed. I did mention to them that I might go with a 10 watt radio. And I have been looking at a lot of other 10 watt radios, all with chinese names I can't pronounce . Will keep this updated. If I get something other than another tid, I'll let this page know before I delete it. Thanks to all who have commented. It is greatly appreciated... My 935 H will do them all. Quote
LeoG Posted 9 hours ago Report Posted 9 hours ago The H3 covers 8 different bands. Murs is one of them. It also does AM airbands and many of the Ham frequencies. I assumed that the 935H would sound more like a real mobile radio instead of the tinny sounding CCR's like the H3. One of the main limits of the H3, don't know if it's the same with the H8 is only 199 channels to store and only the first 55 allow you to transmit. The rest are receive only. Quote

My 935H is just a talkie, but it's 2m/1.25m/and 70cm, as well as Gmrs and Murs if you enter the 4 digit code. A thousand memories on it is nice too. Quote
LeoG Posted 8 hours ago Report Posted 8 hours ago 2 meter 144Mhz and 1.25 meter 220Mhz bands are also covered on the H3, you need to activate the 200Mhz frequency in the menu. 70cm is a given. You can also listen to FM CB if there is anyone on those bands (there aren't LOL). You have to activate the 200, 350 and 500Mhz bands in the menu along with the AM option to listen to them. I've only filled about 70 memories and I'm doubting I'll need many more. I suppose if you use the radio as a scanner having a lot of memories would be nice. Jaay 1 Quote
