Where have all the GMRS Repeaters gone?

Just in the 2M and 440 arena Repeater Book lists 3 repeaters near me. None of them are on the air and have not been in years but folks wont release the channels. 

I agree.. Repeater book never gained traction..  I like their format and the mix of license types but it's useless considering lack of activity...

I live in an HOA, I don't think they'd like a 60 foot tower in my backyard.  Also, I really don't have the funds for a Repeater so that pretty much kills the idea.

Put up a mast for your tv antenna (my understanding is they can’t stop that) and mount a GMRS Yagi to it pointing at the repeater you want to use.

I was going through some older screen shots and ran across the posted PL tone for Shaw Butte. D377N, which isn't a listed DCS tone in my BF-F8HP Pro. It has D371N then skips over 377. So how would one program this off tone into their radio?

Did you go all the way to the end of the list?  Some companies put non-standard codes at the end rather than inserting them between the standard codes.

No, you’re right. I just looked through the manual and 377N isn’t included.

I wonder if there's a firmware upgrade that'll add it. I need to check some of my other radios to see if D377N is listed.

Just checked my AR-5RM and it's not listed there either. Also, neither of the 2 tones for .575 are listed so both Repeaters are useless to me.  Thank God I have my HAM license so I can hit the White Tank and South Mountain Repeaters along with Chase Tower in Phoenix.

Back in September, Kenny @nokones commented in a different forum (Radio Reference) about how the owner of a repeater had changed to D377N in order to stymie a person who was deliberately causing interference. Only a few radios support D377N. Apparently some models of Kenwood and Motorola do.

There were people fighting back and forth and threating harm to each other on the "575 & Shaw".  It just got into a big pissing match as other people would jump and as the chaos unfolded.  Both were turned off for about two weeks.  I am able to hit them with my APX.  600 seems to be hit or miss anymore.  

 

The AzGMRS Clubs 550 has a big footprint as it is on White Tanks.  You have to be a member to use it though.  They do have a few other repeaters that they give you access to that are club/member owned across the Valley.  Scottsdale, I believe is down. Two in Mesa, 650 and 725.

You have to be a member and free to join, is the Southwest Community Radio System. Pinal Peak has a good footprint. (Downfall is when people be stupid, they turn on the ID, so you need to activate the code they give you so the DTMF tones broadcast over on key up or if your radio supports MDC, you can use that. 

Depending on atmospheric conditions you can hit Signal Peak, Towers 575 brother repeater.

Gorilla has been changed, and it is not the correct tones.  Again, people were being dumb, so he has a few people that are on it, primary his family.  

Tonopah: I live in Laveen, and I was picking him up talking to a family member the other night about what road to take due to the flooding out there.  This was on my portable and not a base radio.  I have not tried to talk on it yet, but it might have a decent footprint since it is relativity flat that way. 

Radio traffic in general has died off compared to 6 months ago on the GMRS repeaters.

Gorilla on 700 seems to be up, I hear static on it, need to go outside and try it. The TX is 151.1 but I had to delete the RX tone to hear it.  I wish someone would put a good GMRS Repeater up on the White Tanks, it's covered up with HAM Repeaters and is at a good elevation so you get Valley Wide coverage. A GMRS Repeater up there would be awesome.

Your HOA needs its own repeater, right? You should volunteer to install it.

Knowing who the owner is and that he has been having problems with a jammer on two of his repeaters is the reason for the non-standard Tones, and he likes to give out that information at his discretion, I am not at liberty to say.

It definitely has been effective in stopping the jamming.

There is an awesome GMRS repeater on White Tanks. Has been there for over 10 years and has awesome coverage for most of the Valley and then some. It will awesomely cover I.S. 10 out to MP 54 and up I.S. 17 to Black Canyon City. It is a pretty awesome repeater.

No, there is no cost or you have to be a member to use the repeater on Travel Tone Tuesday.  On Wednesday through Monday, it is still free to use, but you do have to be a Club member.

Also, additional information can be had at www.azgmrs.org about the Club's repeaters.

151.1 Hz is not a standard CTCSS tone.

Never the less it was listed in my radio so I guess the BF-F8HP Pro does have a few non-standard tones.

The correct and standard CTCSS tone would be 151.4 Hz. I doubt, but I could be wrong, that a non-standard CTCSS tone would be only .3 Hertz different than a standard tone. I'm not sure what the tone deviation would be.
