GMRS channel 20 (462.675) can't be used 90% of the time in north Jersey because of those

jammers out of Manhattan ! That repeater has long history of improper use and it was even shut down once

but it came back up soon thereafter.  I just deleted that frequency out of my radio like it never existed.

FCC will never do anything with repeater jamming complaints..  You have to take matters into your own hands..  There is a grown man, 72 years old today in our town that has been jamming local repeaters for years..  If he is not jamming, he is on the various repeaters making farting and belching noises.  Everyone knows who the idiot is (Ron on Desert Candles) and he holds a General HAM Ticket.    Local groups have identified his transmissions, lots of SA pictures behind directional antennas.  Lots of complaines sent to the FCC..   He has figured out he will never be touched or will die by the time the FCC cracks the whip on him.. He dosen't give a damn.  Unfortunately, its come to the point where everyone has given up and hopes one day they meet up with him in a dark blind alley.. How you deal with these morons is beyond me.....

"Bubble Pack" radios should never have been allowed with repeater channels to be sold by big box stores. I know, I know - "free market". With that said you reap what you sow. NYC is a den of idiots, I know I grew up there. A lot of the stupidity on repeaters seems to come from the "bubble pack crowd" who figures how to program a tone and a pair. I had a GMRS license in the early 80's. You bought a Standard Radio GMR-1 and ordered crystals for your licensed pair (plus 675). No nonsense (jammers) but repeater owners had families along with cement companies, taxis on a community tone panel. My repeater was in West Paterson, NJ overlooking NYC and had great coverage. If a customer didn't pay his/her monthly or violated rules owner made a trip to the site and pulled the tone element for that user. Much simpler then. It just seems the people who buy Midland mobiles from Walcott Radio get their license and act responsibly vs those that buy Cobra handhelds in plastic from Bass Pro.

See,, this is the issue: Being individuals firing off complaints. The FCC will never care. Now if those individuals where to offer a service to the public, something in the medical or public safety field, then watch how fast the FCC jumps on the case (even when they are shut down).
