What’s the workaround for this DMR radio to do that since it is not supported by OpenGD77?" Since I don't own one I couldn't tell you, or if it's even doable. On some of my radios I can program in a list of a few hundred talk-groups. Then on the fly, through a menu setting, access the talk-group list and select from one of those that are programmed in for use. I don't have a way to program in the talk-group number itself. Quote

Yes, yes, yes: very interesting as are all of your well researched and written posts are! But I asked Frank who has this radio and seems more and more interested in promoting it as the “sliced bread” of DMR HTs, a specific question Frank convinced me to buy this radio and now using it, I am excited by its prospects, as the newcomer $50 DMR HT. But I direct questions his way on specifics, and continue to hope he has found an answer to those “specific” questions. Let’s not only slice this radio, but toast it with jam, as well! TNFrank Posted October 16, 2025 Author Posted October 16, 2025 You should be able to manually dial the talk group as long as it's on the same Repeater with the same CC and TS. It's like you're still in the same building, you're just changing rooms. I've not ran into this yet but it should be pretty easy. Quote

Especially on my hotspot But I do have DMR Repeater access but I don’t think you understand the mechanics of it. Try it and see if you are successful. I will too Quote
TNFrank Posted October 16, 2025 Author Posted October 16, 2025 This might give some insight into how to do it. I'm not a DMR expert by any means, still figuring a lot of stuff out. WRXL702 1 Quote

This is a great start: I have confirmed that it will transmit on that manually inserted TalkGroup but so far, using one of my other DMR HTs with that TG in its codeplug, I cannot receive responses back. The RT-4D goes right back to its original TG as soon as I release the PTT button. Quote
TNFrank Posted October 16, 2025 Author Posted October 16, 2025 Could be you need to disconnected from the first TG with the 4000 code then reconnect with the new TG? I'd ask the guy on the YouTube link the question, he really seems to be knowledgeable on DMR stuff. SteveShannon and WRXL702 1 1 Quote

TNFrank Posted October 16, 2025 Author Posted October 16, 2025 I guess he's done a video on it then. I guess a good YouTube search might be in order. I'm sure someone has figured this out and even if it's on a different radio you might get enough info to figure it out for the RT-4D. WRXL702 1 Quote

Not necessarily; it is a problem of most "budget" DMR cps software packages. OpenGD77 solved this for the "budget" DMR radios that used the same chip and the Radtel RT-3D is one of them. But the RT-4D uses a different chip OpenGD77 also solved the DMR programming problem of one channel for each TalkGroup, making programming data entry much easier; especially with its Importing capabilities. Ahhh; but YOU got me into the RT-4D and now I am stuck enjoying it!! hahaha Quote

Lscott Posted October 17, 2025 Posted October 17, 2025 I had a member, he's over 80, at my Thursday night radio coffee group just picked up a Radtel RT-860. Looks like a nice radio for $50 he paid for it. So the first thing he did last night was give it to me to figure out how to program it. A few years back I did his UV-5R too. Well I got the user manual and found the current programming software and firmware files on-line. However the programming software doesn't include any help function, other than the version of the software. Most of the settings look straight forward. A few I would like a bit more info on, although I can sort of guess what they do. Since you seem to like Radtel radios here I have a question for you. So, is there any place on the Internet or document useful as a programming guide I can access? This would be good for later reference and to give the guy to look at later if he wants to make changes. I've done a quick search already and haven't found anything immediately. For the moment, as typically recommended for Chinese radios, I did a read of the radio FIRST, and saved the factory code plug just in case of a real screw-up later. I'm editing the factory code plug with the idea of writing it back to the radio later. SteveShannon 1 Quote

TNFrank Posted October 17, 2025 Author Posted October 17, 2025 I like the Radtel RT-880g and the 950. I was looking at both for the APRS functionality but since the RT-4D will do SMS I really don't need one of the other radios now. I'm just going to fight the impulse to get a 950 and concentrate on my 4D radios. I've got way too many HTs, I really don't need any more. Quote

WRYS709 Posted October 19, 2025 Posted October 19, 2025 No, unfortunately; but Radioddity supplies the much better CPEditor Software too (better than the also included Radioddity CPS 3.3 software) Quote
