Newbie and lost on new to me K5Plus and programming repeater

Question

Posted

Tried programming a local GMRS repeater into K5plus and no luck connecting, tried manually and with chirp. Here are my inputs, please tell me what I’m doing wrong:

RX 462.72500 TX 467.72500  offset +5.0  tone 141.3. Set as TSQL   squelch set at 1  transmit on high saved on channel 23 , have no problems with my Wouxum, but wanted to listen to HAM channels so got the Baofeng, please email if possible. Paulphilipsclio@gmail.com. (WSGK529). Contacted Baofeng and their response was to email a copy of the manual.   Thanks.

The Baofeng K5 Plus is an amateur band radio and it won't transmit on GMRS without being unlocked. Did you unlock it? If not then it won't transmit on GMRS channels.

I was under the impression that the new Baofeng was unlocked.  It transmits and receives on all the other GMRS and frs frequencies

Are you sure the settings wrote to the radio’. Awhile back I had a problem where chirp settings weren’t getting to the radio.  Turned out I was using a cheap ebay program cable.   Got to your radio menu settings and check if your CHIRP settings carried over.

Thank you, yes I checked and the settings are there.  I even downloaded Baofeng’s app which shows more info than chirp including tx and rx frequencies and even bought another Baofeng branded cable.  Everything shows correct also when checked manually on the radio itself.

At first, set the mode to TONE rather than TSQL.  That will allow your radio to reproduce everything it receives on 462.72500 MHz.

Make sure that when you post the PTT that your radio indicates the correct transmit frequency: 467.72500 MHz.
It’s sometimes confusing whether the offset is higher priority or the transmit frequency setting.  You don’t want an additional offset applied to the transmit frequency setting. Your radio must transmit on the 467.xxx frequency to the repeater.

I’m not going to direct email you but you can set your notifications so that every time someone answers you, you receive an email.

Okay, you’ve posted exactly that twice but you haven’t provided any details about how your radio isn’t working.  What happens when you push PTT? Does the xmit light come on? What does the screen do?

Do you hear any traffic on the repeater? Do you hear any GMRS traffic?

Can you hear the Baofeng on your Wouxun?

Posts that simply say “It doesn’t work” without a clear description of what actually happens don’t help resolve the issue.

Tried changing to tone setting and still not hitting the repeater.  No return squelch sound when pushing ptt to reach repeater.  Yes, can tx and rx  on all Gmrs and frs channels.  TX light turns on when pushing ptt.  Turned on the wouxun to repeater channel and it does not hear anything from the Baofeng, and nothing heard on Baofeng when tx from wouxon.  Made sure my tx to repeater was 467.72500.

1. The Tone setting is to make sure that you can receive the repeater. It works the same as TSQL on transmit.

2. Tune the Wouxun to receive on the repeater input frequency 467.725, no tones.  Now transmit with the Baofeng (you might need some distance between the two radios to prevent desense.  Does the Wouxun hear the Baofeng?

3. Tune the Wouxun to transmit on the repeater output frequency 467.725 (GMRS 22), no tones.  Now transmit with the Wouxun (you might need some distance between the two radios to prevent desense.  Does the Baofeng hear the Wouxun?

3. Not all radios and repeaters will have a squelch tail.

Are you certain the frequency is correct for that repeater?  What repeater channel on the Wouxun works for that repeater?

Steve Shannon, my problem may not be my problem… was listening to radio traffic and 2 guys were talking about the repeater I have been trying to connect to and they were saying it is down with problems.  So I guess I will wait and try again in a week or so.  Thanks for your suggestions.
