Radioddity DB25-G CPS

Hello All! First post here.

Fairly new to GMRS and I'm trying to figure out the CPS programming. I downloaded the CPS for the GM30 and it seems very straightforward. It installed like a regular program in to my program files with the installer and runs properly.

The CPS for the DB25-G I extracted into my downloads but the installer gives an error, however the application will open from there and run. It seems just extracting the files makes the program work from there. It's quirky and the default file of channels it loads by default are not setup like the standard channels. I can navigate to a "normal" channel list file a load it but it's a PIA. I can't find the default file to overwrite it in the files.

I would like this to actually install in program files and have it run properly. Any thoughts on this or is there other software that is capable without all this hassle? I don't understand why the to programs are so very different.

Any help or advise is greatly appreciated.

I was having a terrible time trying to program my DB25-G with the stock cable and drivers so I bought a quality FTDI cable.  Still didn’t fix the issue so I sent the radio back and got a second one.  Still same problem, so I gave up on the DB25-G and just got the Radioddity DB20-G and haven’t had a single problem since.  Funny enough both only put out about 17-18 watts so I didn’t really give up anything but being able to monitor 4 channels at once vice two. Not really a big deal for me.

You may need to turn off your firewall for it to install  correctlyand then turn it back on

I have the clone of the GM-30 but not the db25-G (I do have its sibling, the db20-G), and I use their Windows CPS software successfully. 

However both sre now supported by the latest version of Chirp and you may be more successful using Chirp. 

The two programs are so different because the GM-30 is really a Baofeng GM-15Pro and the DB25-G is really the Anytone AT-778UV

Thank you, I just discovered Chirp. Getting the proper cable to program the GM-30 today.

Pay a few dollars extra and be sure your programming cable has the FTDI chip

Not exactly.
Multiple vendors sell cables that have a K1 (for Kenwood) connector, but some use counterfeit UART chips to convert the digital signal of the USB port into sounds that interface with the microphone and earphone ports on the radio. Some are labeled as being “genuine FTDI” UART chips. 
Windows 11 drivers are more aggressive at detecting counterfeit chips, and refuse to work if you’re not using an approved chipset. There are other chipsets besides FTDI, but as long as you use a good cable with the driver that was written for it you shouldn’t have any issues. 
Also there’s K1, K2, etc, so you must get the right plug. 

In general, get a good quality cable with the correct connector and you’ll be fine.

This is the USB to K-1 FTDI cable I purchased in 2017 for $22 from Amazon.

I got this one and it worked fine, half the price. I was able to read and program the GM-30 and Baofeng 5RM.

For some reason it would not communicate with the BF-F8HP which I think is bricked. Not sure where I got this one but it had only 6 channels on it, did a factory reset and went down to 2 channels, lol. Can't communicate with it or upgrade firmware. I read somewhere that only the Baofang cable will work on some radios.

A lot of dual band radios only come from the factory with two channels configured, one for VHF and one for UHF. Nothing surprising about a factory reset taking it back to two channels. If it works on two channels it’s not bricked.  You’ll get it figured out.

I have had good success in Windows 11 programming my Radioddity DB20-G after Radioddity abandoned their Prolific based USB to RJ-45 cable and replaced them with one similar to that one based upon the CH340 chip

I'm reading that the "cheap" cable like the one I got won't work without the FTDI driver so I'll try that next.

There are multiple manufacturers of UART chips. Each requires its own driver. You need the FTDI driver if you have the FTDI chip and you need the Prolific driver if you have the Prolific chip, etc. 

Just make sure you use the chip that has a driver for your operating system.

i tried the radiooddity programming software, and it does the same thing, tells me to insert disk.  haha  im using a windows 11 gaming pc, does not have any drives, all nvme ssd. have you had this issues resolved yet?   WSKL338
